OK so this is the place to pass that special album that hasnt been chewed up by the likes of Simon Cowell. A special album which is unknown to the masses. Please confirm the band/album / year - Here's to a healthier music collection My recommendation for this week ... Brand New Heavies - Album - Shelter - 1997 You would have heard some of the tracks being used for commercial companies but the whole album is really outstanding. Chilled out vibe -
Utter ****e! Try this....
If you're talking about outstanding albums, 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'The Wall' (both by Pink Floyd) are IMO the two greatest pieces of music created, Roger Waters may be a **** but he's a brilliant songwriter, Gilmour is just a God walking on earth, and Rick Wright and Nick Mason hold the whole thing together. Dark Side of the Moon, in particular, is simply a work of art.
Im not questioning the quality of dark side of the moon, but its hardly unknown,in fact it's probably in the top ten of most people's best ever albums.
Nick Cave - The Boatmans call - 1997 Nick cave is the only artist I know that has written outstanding music continuously. His lyrics are the closest you ever gonna get to a perfect marriage between music and words. For some he is too deep but if you a looking for pure pleasure for your ears and brain tune in.
Love Nick Cave, love the goth stuff, also Fields of the Nephilim. My favourite album is probably Culture Shock - Onwards and Upwards, here is ISD from that.
Grinderman with Nick Cave on vocals.
Bolloxed up that link, here's another off of that Culture Shock album:
Look no further than Anna Calvi, by Anna Calvi, released this year. Appropriate as Nick Cave has been mentioned already, as her music has been compared with his quite a lot. She could do a seriously good Bond theme tune, and she is a fantastic guitarist Plenty of stuff on Youtube.
There's no doubting you're a certified 'meat lover' ... ... oh no! You're not going to write more frightening aggressive text now are you???
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction Raw but ****ing brilliant and not one **** track on the whole album. Saint Etienne- So Tough Funky **** all the way through
I don't know how obscure they are, but my album of 2010 was The National's High Violet. Dark, nuanced, gripping. It's excellent. Deep rich vocals. Amazingly clean, effective drumming. I keep meaning to get round to buying their other albums. Lovely biscuits.
I think it's fair to say that a great deal of really good music that escapes the masses - I have heard that BNH album and it's not my scene frankly. Here's a few that may have passed you by... Memorial Beach - a-ha (1993) The Age of Plastic - The Buggles (1980) Exciter - Depeche Mode (2001) Will Downing - Will Downing (1988) Open Soul - Hue & Cry (2008) Dare! - Human League (1981) Retroglide - Level 42 (2006) Employment - Kaiser Chiefs (2005) Private Eyes - Hall & Oates (1981) Little Creatures - Talking Heads (1985) The Seeds of Love - Tears for Fears (1989) ...
Jersey has it with 'Dark Side' imho early 1970's Van the Man takes some beating: Astral Weeks is undoubtedly a work of art and genius
