Would you have said that about Targett after the Chelsea game last season and the three games Bertrand missed? He did very well in those games, but had a couple of poor ones since the season started. Easy to say that with hindsight.
Targett offers nothing going forward. Nor does Yoshida or Martina. None of them have pace and none of them can cross the ball. To not have Cedric on the park in either leg was criminal.
It's been a very long time since I've felt this negative and upset over football. After all the rhetoric from the club I expected so much more.
Tend to agree as things stand. As I alluded to earlier, I think there's more endemic tactical/gelling/injury based issues that need addressing this season than worrying about a long run in Europe. I didn't think that would be the case, and I'm disappointed to be out, but I'd rather the management and team concentrated on sorting this than playing in the group stage.
When he plays a team like Chelsea all we are expecting of him is a half decent defensive display. He is woeful going forward and needs to improve fast.
To be fair I didn't see the chelsea game so can't comment on that. But he's just never impressed me defensively or in attack. Also he's a kid so even if he was up to it, it would still be a lot of responsibility at that age so yes before the season started I wanted us to sign another LB. BTW I feel it's unfair on Matt as well, in a few years he might be ready but this must be damaging at the moment he looks really fustrated and would better of playing at a lower level but we have no other option.
I think it's more to do with the fact that we appear to have gone backwards a fair bit. There's very little cohesion in the team and the highly defensive hoofball is ineffective and hard to watch. We know Ron can make new players gel extremely quickly and that we can play so much better than what we've seen so far. It's not about losing a game, its just really frustrating to see us unwilling to play to our strength
I just genuinely feel let down. Feels like sheff utd last season. We did follow that up with a 3-0 home win and a turnaround in fortunes....
Sort of along the lines of what I think you're getting at to an extent, ever since the summer transfer window was first introduced I've always seen August as the best month to show up your failings. It gives your club a chance to try and rectify them before the window slams shut. There's no point winning two of your first four games, everyone thinking that things are great, only for you to then win two of your next ten games after August. Watford coming across as being quite solid and difficult to beat so far could be the worst thing for them. At least Sunderland have made it clear to the world that they still can't defend (of course whether they fix that before Tuesday is another matter). No papering over cracks. Bare it all to the world. But then again, at the same time, you also need to be sure as a club that there really are cracks there which require filling, and it's not just a little run of poor form or bad luck to start the season with.
How Davis and ward prowse get in the same team is beyond me - neither good enough to start. Both full backs incapable of attacking which given they played as wing backs reduces our threat from wide to nothing And j rod up front when he is nowhere near good enough yet Why did we buy jaunmi - one for the future I guess
Very disappointed with the performance but it is the same old story from last season in that we have little to no creativity coming from the centre of the park and atm we don't have the full backs attacking to start our attacks. At one point tonight we had 7 defensive players on the field (9 if you include Davis and JWP) which is poor management, especially after going a goal behind. Still it's not all bad, we can fully concentrate our efforts on finishing somewhere between 8th and 17th in the league. Great story to tell the grandkids
Yep agreed. I'm disappointed, but strangely okay about it, much like Fran said earlier. I just hope there's no post-Europe hangover type thing to deal with. I'd like to see a really positive, forceful reaction from the squad. And yes, back to 4-3-3 and passing the ball on the floor.
He's right though. Get on their backs after the first sloppy pass will just play into Norwich's hands. We need the place rocking.
