I have to say hand on heart that although it gave me a certain amount of schadenfreude to see Newcastle fans letting themselves down like this I think it's pretty much a non story and I personally do not believe the vast majority of the 'idiots' deserve too much punishment.

The worry for some with their moment of madness must be how much of an example NUFC want to set to avoid repeat performances where consequences for the club could be significant... if the club come down hard then lifetime bans could be more widespread than expected.

Did any fans run on when Shola scored at Accrington when they were singing the same song. Didn't see any personally.

Good point. That's the worry, how other clubs and our own will now treat us. The lads on the pitch fighting will get a 3 year ban, which is the norm. And it will do them some good.

Say it now: Sunderland fans should stay off the pitch...

I actually agree with Sid, for reasons I've listed pages ago. Had a few ran on the pitch then quickly gone back off, great, all fun and games (I even laughed at Sammys face before he ran away from the first two invaders near the corner where I was). Problem is once that happens its far too easy for the scum to get rowdy, and that's why as Sid says no fans should cross that white line.

It certainly wasn't funny when the female steward was getting thrown on the floor, and the kid who walked past with a paramedic and a huge dressing on his palm certainly wasn't laughing.

I'm not commenting on it any further as its been done to death, but I really hope it doesn't happen again at Leeds in a few weeks.

Enjoyed that trip to Accrington, one of the best away days. Great pubs too.

Darlo last time was the only time I had seen a few run on, but Friday night was the ultimate.

It all started back at Cheltenham in 06, Shearer needed one goal to beat the record and we were singing if Shearer scores we're on the pitch. He never did, so it changed to Luque, and then anyone. Then Shola took the crown.

I'm not justifying our fans running on the pitch, I'm just saying they weren't exactly ruthless thugs either, excluding the actual thugs later on of course.

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. The pitch invision was daft, idiotic even - but harmless. It would be impossible and quite frankly a waste of time and resources to punish all 300 or so 'invaders'. However those who were fighting will and should be expossed and punished accordingly.

Got speaking to a bloke in the pub, he worked for Accrington, controlling the ball boys. He got me a free pint and programme in the ground. He was talking to Smith, Nolan and Barton at half time. Very nice bloke. Makes me miss the Championship, genuine supporters.

I guess it's down to opinions. It won't and wouldn't have happened at Leeds anyway, far more security and major risk of fighting. I've been to Leeds 5 times, not a nice place especially if they are pissed off.

It would be funny if we did it at Sunderland though ;)

People seem to be forgetting that Darlington will have plenty of local Toon fans, many of which will likely have attended. Whereas Leeds will have a lot less local Toon fans due to Leeds being quite successful. Also as Leeds is more expensive to get to I expect there to be more adults than chavy pissed up teenagers.

Travelled to the game yesterday on a coach that was mostly kids. Got to say they were all very well behaved.

Do you think younger fans will get more of a slap on the wrist for being on the pitch or do you think they'll be treated like everyone else?

Did the lad who attacked Harper get a life ban?
