I think if no big money transfers come in Dick should walk.

I think it puts the pressure on Short rather than a manager fire fighting and getting sacked for a problem that is not his fault and not of his making (to a degree)

If Dick has not gotten what he wants and has seen that the club has not tried. He should walk and say so. He has nothing to lose.

Think he is the right man for the job and has the best contacts and reputation compared to recent managers but I have to question his determination to play a system he likes as opposed to a system that best suits the squad of players at our disposal.
That said I continue to be sceptical over the dof role. Congertons credentials and experience is admirable and he's done better business than Di fanti but I'm not sure it's a good fit for us at this time.
Do our counterpart mid/low table teams have a set up like us?

I still think he's the right man for the job. I'm intrigued by the idea of how Short would react if Dick walks though.

After being used to having the sharp end of the firing finger, how will he react when he's given the finger back?

Having said that, Dick wont walk though, he'll see the season out.

I'm happy with him atm. What do we expect with this squad? Is he supposed to turn them into world beaters?

Totally agree. How embarrassed is Ellis Short going to feel when such a high profile manager sticks two fingers up and walks?
Dick is doing the best he can with the squad he has largely inherited from previous managerial failings.

The phrase "trying to polish a turd" springs to mind! <doh>

I'd take Nolan on a one year contract like. Team player and hard working

Interesting theory, but Nolan is even slower than O'shea!

My concern with DA is we have gone from a defensive unit at the end of last season which by hook or by crook managed to stay fairly difficult to beat and kept us up. This season with the same personnel plus New recruits we seem not to have a clue with regards to defending. Is that's DA,s fault or is he missing his right hand man (can't remember his name) and this is why we're rubbish at the back. I know everyone is talking about AMF and striker but surely we have to stop the goals against column and rack up some clean sheets starting on Saturday. Whose fault is it we suddenly can't defend.

Suddenly? Did you miss the hammerings we had last season? We lost three games under Dick last season, in those games we conceded 8 goals. When we lose we seem to lose heavy something that continued from Poyet. I don't see any difference going into this season. We collapse too easy, same old same old. Something I won't blame Dick for but it's something he needs to solve. But when you look at the big picture, he still hasn't had much time to work on us. Yes he's had a summer but is three months without competitive games really enough to solve a deep rooted problem like this?

Last season we concentrated on defending and apart from a few games kept a good defence. We scored few goals and were not up to much as an attacking side.

The first couple of games we tried to be more attacking and although we've scored more our defence has suffered.

Maybe somewhere in the middle of these two systems could suit us.

I'm going to put my neck on the line here and say he shouldn't have come back. He did wonders for us last season and I'm eternally grateful for it as I'm sure we all are.

A 1 year contract = 1 more year fire fighting with no real direction or purpose. All to start again this time next season. Had he accepted a 3 year contract then yeah fine. But if I was a player, I'd steer clear personally.

Just my gut feeling lads, don't annihilate me for it.
