I think we've signed some good players, but i think Bruce hasn't spent his cash wisely.

Sure we've signed a lot of players, but i'd rather we went for higher quality players, instead a bunch of average players.

Oshea - A good player, but he's hardly great and he's hardly going to frighten the **** out of many left wingers. I think he's probably one of the better RB's we would have signed, and i'm happy to an extent with him, but i think offering a long term contract to someone his age is a bit stupid.

Wes Brown - A good signing, but a dip in quality from Mensah, IMO. Mensah was poor towards the end of last season, but in form he's a brilliant CB. He's a good player, but we're again not improving with this signing. He's experienced, but old and his contract is too much for an old player.

Whickham - I think he's a cracking young prospect, but isn't this a bit of a gamble? Our season could depend on whether this lad proves himself at this level, if he doesn't then we've only got one quality striker, and Gyan can't score all our goals. We can't rely on Gyan to be like Bent and carry us like in 09/10. I think we need another striker. We should go after Welbeck again or go for Sturridge.

Larsson - A good signing on a free, but he's hardly going to raise the quality of our play that much is he? We need better.

Gardner - 8 goals last season from midfield. That's good. What we lacked last season was a goal scoring mid to help the strikers out, and i'm happy with this signing, and it's probably my favourite so far.

Westwood - A good keeper, but i'm not peeing myself waiting to see how good he is. He's probably not as good as Gordon really.

Ji Wong Dong - Probably one for the future.

I still think we need more quality. We have squad depth, and that's a good thing, but have we really improved?

We have made a lot of signings and new faces have arrived, but this means it could take a while to gel.

Also these contracts that have been thrown to the older players like Brown and Oshea could come back to bite us hard if we do not succeed next season. We could end up ****ing ourselves financially.

Players we should sign - Nzogbia - Come on SAFC show some ambition and offer Wigan 12m for him. I know he said he'd love to go to the scum, but i still reckon he'd be worth it and add creativity and pace to our squad.

Sturridge - He may have a big price tag, but his performances for Bolton were excellent.

I worry about the derby days. The mags have only made 3 signings, but Cabaye looks like a top quality player, probably better than any of the players we've signed, Marvauex also looks like a quality player, Demba Ba has shown potential in this league, and they have Ben Arfa, Barton, Tiote and Gutierrez.

I know it hurts to say, but our midfield just doesn't live up to there's, and i could see another derby day going against us. Regardless of the fact that they've spent no money, they have improved, and they have plenty of quality in their midfield.

I know that that big donkey Ameobi is ****, but he always scores against us, or atleast comes close and plays well.

I don't know, i'm probably over reacting, but i just have a bad feeling about August 20th.

I'll try and remain optimistic, but i can't help but feel nervous.

I hear what you're saying, but remember we need quantity as well as quality. Our problems during the second half of last season were compounded by having such a small squad. As it is, we are not much better off in terms of quantity . We have lost Bent, Welbeck, Jordan, Onuwa, Mensah for starters..
We daren't have another season being so short in numbers.

Brucie has gone for played tried and tested at premier league level to give the squad strength and to consolodate us or try to we will see come April/May time in the top 10 and push on from last season.

The players we have signed are decent players not a marquee signing (yet) like Gyan last year and Bent the summer before but what do you want the club to do mate go out and bring in 9 or 10 players of Bent and Gyan's quality that would be spending a huge amount of money.

I still think there will be a marquee signing in the Bent/Gyan class and maybe a player or two onloan.

There is still plenty of time in the transfer window to add to what I see as good quality signings to date. Seems to me that we are improving the quality of our permanent squad and nine solid men on the park with two capable of a bit of quality adds up to a competitive team that has a better than good chance against all but the top four or five sides.
I guess we all want to see the next couple of signings on board as soon as possible but its a tough competitive market place and with a need for financial restraint we have to get value for money.
Do I think the Club are headed in the right direction-yes. Do I trust Quinn, Bruce and Short to keep making improvements-yes.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong, but you can't tell how these signings will work out yet. It's how they blend in that's important. I know bugger all about Wickham and Dong, so I can't chip in there, but O'Shea and Gardner are two players I rate. Brown is at worst a quality back-up, although I am no big fan of his. Larsson? Creative type, so maybe a bit like a Steed who can run. Not sure we need another keeper, but this one is rated so I'm happy enough there. Another couple and I'll be happy enough.

  9. At least you're honest, and made a good article, not like the last one you made.

I personally believe we have the better squad, but i'm not going to brag until the results come in, because that's what you did last season and look what happened ;)

O`Shea = Only 30 4 year contract will see him to 34 not to long at all, Can play all along the back line and DM, does a job at all of them, isnt exceptional at any, but he may be when we see him in a red and white shirt, not a red shirt, could be our player of the season.

Brown = only 31, not as injury prone as some make out, yes has had injuries, not denying that, but he was fit all last season, just couldnt get in as SAF was trying out Smalling, and he excelled, **** happens in football, can play CD and RB, not the same type of defender as mensah, more like a carvalho for me, quick to the ball, can read the game well, good passer out of defence, which usually means you make a few more mistakes than a hoof ball merchant, but you also set up a lot more attacking play as well. Will be our player of the season.

larsson may compliment wickham, and vice versa, good balls into the box for the big lad to get on the end off, will just have to wait and see.

Gardner, has not done a lot till last year, hopefully he keeps it up and can get in the box for any knockdowns.

Dong, just have to wait and see with this one, looks pacey and skillful but a big step up from what he is used to.

Westwood, sure we were linked when keane was manager, looks a good keeper, but again a big step up from what he is used to.

I wouldnt say any of the signings are world class players, but collectively they will (hopefully) do a good job for us.

I agree to a point, the signings we've made haven't set the world alight (with the exception of Wickham and Gardner), but I think we're still going to make a marquee signing, be it a left-footed player or a striker. I am optimistic for next season though.

You say Cabaye and marvauex are quality players. how many times did you watch them play last season.

  16. Yes mate, but i'm talking about the derby days. You bragged and talked **** and got hammered, so i'm not going to do the same thing you's did this time last season.

Btw, i know this has been discussed countless times, but if the difference between each other is only a point, i'd rather have the derby game wins tbh, but that's just my preference.

I would have died inside you beat us 5-1 and we only managed to scrape a last second draw at SJP, and finishing a point above you wouldn't have healed the wounds.

But to each his own i suppose.

    Its his opinion.

I think John O'Shea is a good player, but put him in a team surrounded by average/**** players, he will look like a mug. Someone made a great point at Darlington, when Keegan joined Newcastle in 83, he was playing the ball into areas for players to run on to, but they were never there. They were the right ball, but the receiving players just weren't good enough to read it, therefore Keegan looked like a mug.

We aren't changing much of our team, therefore gelling them together won't be as hard as a new look team such as yours. That's fact, don't abuse me for saying it, its just true. No one knows how good the players are until they start playing together.

As for Cabaye, he was the stand out player. His passing, both short and long was impressive, as was his positioning. I know it was only against Darlo, but I was impressed. Ben Arfa was shocking, he looked good on the ball, but kept trying to shoot and got tackled on many occasions, I do put that down to him being rusty though, first game since October 3rd and played 73 minutes, good run out.

Why are you bigging up Newcasle's midfield, have you actually seen any of these French blokes play??
They have alot more to be concerned about with a midfield 4 of: Sess Catts Gardner Larson!!

    Have some faith!!

Sess yes, Catts no, Garnder not really, Larsson? We already have a similar player, his name is Ryan Taylor.

  20. Why would we be frightened of Sess? Good player yes, but he'll be in CBP ;)
