As a couple of side notes, What the hell are Honda basing their statement on that their engine is better than Renault? And also, what have Renault done to their engine? have they used any development tokens the past month or so? suddenly Red Bull are up fighting with/near Ferrari again on pace and them and Toro Rosso (especially) are regularly starting to top speed traps (though i suspect Downforce levels, fuel loads, strategies and DRS glossed their actual performance a bit, but it's not like others didn't have that either.....). Something i noticed on the onboards of the Renault cars, they all have a very, very long 8th gear (hence the high speeds at spa, combined with drs etc they could exploit it). Onbard the Merc and Ferrari cars, they were all hitting more or less their top speed even without drs, whereas the renault cars, even when drs was deployed were still accelerating right up to the braking zone with more to give.
Yasuhisa Arai, please stop talking..... Honda reckons its F1 engine is 25 horsepower ahead of Renault
I just read that as well. It did make me laugh. Problem is if the electric power is 100hp down you are still down 75hp on Renault overall. It was interesting that he did mention that McL's tight packaging was causing them problems and they would be using the tight packaging next year, so Honda would just have to deal with it.....
Even if your standard motor is up (which I doubt), the engine is measured as a whole with all power generating parts accumulated - not selected ones.
Head in the clouds this guy. Honda desperately need some European engineers to bridge the gap and to build a common goal because it seems to me that Honda are in a development race and agenda of their own. Complete nonsense to say they are better than Renault after that disgraceful Belgium GP.
I was assuming that he was referring to the internal combustion engine not the entire power unit. If he was referring to the power unit being 25hp ahead of Renault I think he is talking out of his backside. If he is talking about just the internal combustion engine then he may be correct. It is confusing.
I'm assuming he is talking purely about the internal combustion engine, but I still doubt they are ahead in this area. Like i said, the engine has to be measured as a whole output and that's before we take into account efficiency - or lack of.
You (as in Us) so want McLaren to succeed yet the last time they really contended they had cheated with Ferrari knowledge. Is the magic actually lost...7/8 years on the slide? Let's not forget it was a different generation when they last teamed with Honda...ever since...Honda failed! It is a cultural problem still. If there is an arrogance at the top the business makes bad decisions. True of all companies, Mclaren, Honda and many others.
Given their predicament, they should look for a way to harness all his hot air (unless it would be classified as an exhaust blown diffuser).
Eric Boullier is now saying that McHonda is looking towards the rules change of 2017 for the partnership to really come together and produce results!!!!!! So much for having a better engine than Renault!!!!!!!!
So after using new PU's in Spa both Alonso and Button are getting new PU's for Monza. Well I'm glad Honda have sorted out their reliability. They can move on from beating Renault to beating Ferrari now
The think that I don't get is they now have 4 engines with only 1 race on them. But I thought the teams were only allowed 1 homologation at a time therefore all 4 engines must be the same? This seems a silly situation to be in, OK so Spa and Monza were never going to be good for McHonda but to lock yourself into using the same spec for 4 engines seems silly. Why didn't they just use 2 new engines at Spa and then see how they perform? Then make improvements and use 2 new engines a bit later in the season? OK so they would suffer grid drops later in the season at tracks they may have done better at but surely it's not just about points this year it's about getting as much knowledge about the engine as possible so they can improve it as much as possible, even if it's just in reliability terms. Then again maybe that is the answer, make the changes and use tokens knowing that the components can't last the required number of races so you can further improve the components under the 'reliability' rule, thus getting 2 or more changes free. I so wish more info was public.
I haven't been on the site for some months and I suspect this website is already well known. Interesting statistic. http://hasmclarenhondawonyet.com/ Couple of others http://hasmaldonadocrashedtoday.com/ and http://maldonadopenaltycounter.com/ Apologies if this is old hat.
Over three years without a win for McLaren (barring a major upset in the next few races). They have been well and truly Williamsed.
