Not sure how many on here will be familiar with local lad Guy Smith, but he won Le Mans with Bentley in 2003 and followed that up coming second in 2004 in an Audi R8, he's a very good driver who's just returned to Bentley... please log in to view this image Guy Smith marked a successful return to Bentley Team Dyson Racing with a third-place finish in his Bentley Continental GT3 in Sunday’s Pirelli World Challenge race at Miller Motorsports Park. Smith set the race’s fastest lap during the course of a race-long battle with the Ryan Dalziel piloted Porsche, which wasn’t settled in Smith’s favour until three laps from the end. "Ryan is a world-class driver and he’s trying to win a championship, so he was very motivated to keep me behind him," Smith said following the race. "My Bentley and his Porsche were very closely matched. The rear-engine configuration of his car meant maybe a bit more traction coming off the turns, but I had an advantage under braking. Ryan was fair, but he was also very good at not giving much opportunity to make a successful move on him. But I kept the pressure on and eventually he bobbled." Smith’s Bentley quickly pulled out a comfortable lead over Dalziel. The duel for third place between the Bentley and the Porsche proved the highlight of the race for spectators who attended the race. In recognition of Smith’s triumph in his race with series point-leader Dalziel and for setting the fastest lap of the race, Smith was honoured in the post-race ceremonies with the "Move of the Race" award. "Our team overcame some setbacks this weekend," said Bentley Team Dyson Racing founder and CEO Rob Dyson. "We were all pleased with Guy’s performance. And I think we will be quite competitive next weekend at Sonoma." http://www.vwgroupmotorsport.com/pr...rke=&tree=-120-&ebene=2&id=4419&usersprache=2
I worked at Swift Caravans in the 80/90's where Guy's dad, Pete Smith, is chairman. Guy often took over the car park on Saturday mornings, creating a mini-circuit for his go-kart and spent hours racing around it. All that practice obviously paid off, Pete will be very proud of a local lad who's made a name for himself on the world motorsports stage.
I raced him in a kart once, we were in identical karts and driving pretty much flat out, but I couldn't get anywhere near him, he lapped me within about three laps. His mum lives just round the corner from me.
R.I.P to the British lad who died from injuries sustained in the Indy Cars this week. I heard of Guy Smith before good luck to him if he has a go at Le Mans again
He was hanging out the back of the sister of a lass I was rattling. Met him once. Thought he was a bit of a bellend tbh.
