None of us predicted this would happen to Lambert

Yeah - interesting to read the comments below.

On the subject of previous managers, I have to say I am not at all surprised that Hughton has started the season strongly at Brighton after steadying the ship their last year. I think they'll be in the mix for play-off promos by the end of the season, though I'd be very surprised if they are able to stay in the top two. It just goes to show that a manager at one club can be excellent, but another might just not fit at all.

Same old chestnut isn't it ? "The grass isn't always greener"

When he left us it was rumoured that it was because of lack of investment in the playing squad, investment co-incidently which we arguably didn't have. His parting shot was "there's things that the fans don't know", well I for one am still waiting to hear what those "things" were. Lambert undoubtedly saved us from oblivion for that I will be forever grateful, but the way in which he jumped ship to Villa left a bad taste in the mouth. You've made your bed Lambo' (and plenty of dosh along the way), now lie on it <ok>

The fact he jumped ship didn't come as a surprise to anyone if you consider he did the same to Colchester, it didn't annoy me or make me hate him because he did the same to us. But going to Villa was always a bad move, still think he should have had one more season with us then if that was successful I'm sure bigger clubs would have came knocking.

I was thinking about Lambert the other day and wondering where he will go next, probably manage a Championship team next as I can't see any PL clubs wanting him.

I guess it depends if the Sunderland board look at the way he stabilised us in mid-table as a promoted side, or how his Villa side were sliding towards relegation before he was sacked. Seeing as Sunderland are rumoured to be hampered financially by FFP, and there's hardly a feel-good vibe around the club right now, I'd say that his Villa tenure is more relevant.

As I've said elsewhere, I think Allardyce will be their first choice, Lambert might well make the list somewhere though.

What club wouldn't be better with more money?

Also the comment that Villa are too big to go down, this is a belief lots of clubs have but clubs like Leeds and Forrest have proved that having a history has little affect on the present. Also are Villa that big a club anymore? They're just another club with a half full stadium struggling to stay in the PL.

Good call Colk, another couple of poor performances and this could be a goer I
And then there is Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday who have been otu of the top flight so long that some have forgotten how big these clubs were. We did bloody well to bounce back two tiers in two seasons otherwise you get sucked in to mediocrity. Ask our friends in the South!

Whatever happens it's never Lambert's fault though, he left us because of something that Bowcett apparently done, but he refused to diverge details other then 'I've got nothing to hide but I'm sure the fans will find out in due course' cue dramatics and confusion, I'm grateful for what he done for our club but at the same time he's an absolute **** stirrer.

This is just it, isn't it.

It's a dilemma because it's hard for us to say anything bad after the rejuvenation we achieved under him, yet he's a complete cock.

I justify my feelings by suggesting there's no loyalty other than fans to their club.

He has absolutely no respect for this club he managed to unsettle Grant Holt that summer too, then tried to manipulate Wes and Ruddy, thinking about it his a ****ing weasel but we'd be nowhere without those seasons, it's like a form of blackmail.

I thought he was very special in his time, but he has a sour demeanour that leaves an unpleasant aftertaste.
