Really poor from Fonte. Frustrating. But to be fair to him someone should be in and around that area at least trying to deal with Sparv.
Well, that's the away goal we did not need them to get. Against the run of play - but that's football...
Following texts and reports of the game. It sounds that FC Midtjylland are a very physical team if they rely on set pieces to get their goals. Are they actually making Big Sam's teams look like fantastic footballers? God help football if teams like this get very far in Europe. Awful, awful, awful!!!!
It's definitely not a back three. We're playing 4-2-3-1. ---------Stek -Yoshida-Fonte-Caulker-Targett ----Wanyama-Romeu -Mane---Rodriguez--JWP -----------Pelle Cedric may come on at half time for Yoshida or Caulker. Tadic for JWP is another option.
It wasn't the most entertaining half of football or best performance I've ever seen, but the goal aside that wasn't too bad. No massive gaping chasm in midfield today. Romeu looks like he'll potentially score a few this season too. Wonder if we'll make any half time subs?
If Wikipedia is correct, that's only Sparv's eighth career senior goal, in over two hundred matches. Anyone who isn't putting a bet on Boruc to score when we first face Bournemouth is missing an easy chance to retire early.
I just hate teams like FC Midtjylland. They have zilch creativity apart from their immense physicality. Hope some of their players get a red card and we can be awarded three penalties and score.
That goal came as a result of Romeu and Wanyama having not played very much with each other yet. Both committed to the ball when Wanyama should have moved in and Romeu held position where Sparv was. It will come. We were the better team and will equalise early second half
Hope you guys are going to concentrate on your football this season. Already it is shaping up to be a very tight division with very little separating the teams from 1st to 24th. Might a total in the low 80s to get automatic promotion and a high total in the mid 40s to avoid the drop. All the promoted teams look good and I quite like the look of Preston. Back to the topic of tonight's match. Saints need some much needed creativity and speed to unsettle these Danes!!
