with man utd's main squad in the usa, i wonder what sort of opposition we may be facing. i wondered if sir bobby might come on for 5 minutes. if anyone has any inkling of the opposition, i think we should be told
There will still be some very good players. Oliver Norwood, Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison and Will Keane are 4 massive talents and being UTD they'll be a few other good players. I'm sure it'll be a good test for the team.
It had been rumoured that a couple of the above were coming to us on a season's long loan. I can only see them going to higher league teams.
I think Fergie would choose a successful team like Shrewsbury in a lower league rather than a team, like Wycombe, in a higher league struggling to fend off the inevitable relegation.
shrews are handy for loan players where a watching brief may be kept. besides sir alex only needs successful clubs and not yo yo clubs far away nobby stiles is unavailable for sunday sadly. mick thomas would but cannot, i think sir bobby is stateside. so look out for 8 youth, the chaplain and an amatuer weather forcaster. this will be the worst spell of wetthur for some time
Thought I would have a bet on Wycombe being relegated as it seems like a sure thing. Research this morning suggests that the major bookies have stopped taking bets on it already. The only one I could find to take it, was a small place in Princes Risborough called WigglesworthBet. What do they know that we don't????
This was the Man U team who played Oxford last pre-season...... Johnstone, Wootton, Fryers (Stewart HT), Chester, Gill, Possebon, Ajose, Morrison (Tunnicliffe 84), King (Norwood 68), Eiksem (Lingard 78), Brady (Dudgeon HT). Subs not used: Devlin, Cathcart. Anyone who has played a football manager game in the last few years will be aware of a lot of these players. I still feel though 15 pounds is way too expensive for a ticket.
instead of betting on dead certs to go down, try 5,17,26,33.34 and 45 not 161 million but a tenner might come in useful to place on an outsider getting promo from L2. come on you shrews!
Wycombe still looking a good bet for relegation. Lost 2-1 to Braintree and with a reasonably strong line up including rat man.
Shrewsbury beat Man UTD 2-1. Squads as follows: Chris Neal, Jermaine Grandison (Carl Ragon 65), Joe Jacobson (Connor Goldson 75), Sean McAllister, Reuben Hazell, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, Lionel Ainsworth (Jon Taylor 65), Nicky Wroe (Luke Summerfield 65), James Collins (Luke Male 83), Marvin Morgan (Tom Bradshaw 65), Mark Wright ( Steve Leslie 65) Goals: Collins 11, McAllister 30 Manchester United:Alan Fettis, Michael Keane, Sean McGinty, Ezekiel Fryers, Tom Thorpe, Daniel Drinkwater, Paul Pogba, Darron Gibson, Will Keane, Davide Petrucci (Jesse Lingard 54), John Cofie ( Larnell Cole 46) Squad included two trialists - Carl Regan and Luke Summerfield
well played the shrews, thanks for the squads matster. this is a great win, better than losing to braintree and wendover etc. was it a good game, how did the shrews perform, particularly our new boys. what a great way to officially open the loggerheads with a win over man u.
2 trialists- They make perfect sense as Summerfield according to Wikipedia is a pass expert and Regan a RB.
Summerfield looks good, but McIntyre and disley were good passers and so is Wroe. I think he might offer some new things though. Regan was supposedly not popular at Brizzle but is a mate of Wrights.
Pinches of salt all round as it was only a friendly and it was United reserves/youth. But still, several of United's young players will be en route to higher things and they passed it around as you'd expect any United team to do. We certainly matched them for that though and Ainsworth and Wright gave us an edge on the flanks, as did an excellent Leslie when he came on. Collins and Morgan worked well together, Hazell and Jacobson were good, Grandison and Goldson did well while they were on. Thoroughly enjoyable, as friendlies go, and we look to be in good shape for July. Compare and contrast with the 0-4 friendly defeat against Leicester two years ago, when we looked set for a very long season to come - Simpson duly lost his job some months later. Friendlies can be useful predictors.
