With the transfer window ticking down before it closes it will be interesting to see how our Director of Football plays this out. He has to be under extreme pressure. If he doesn't come up with the signings I would think maybe Advocaat will walk which would be extremely embarrassing for the club. If he does come through with signings will they be panic buys? Any club he approaches know what position Sunderland are in and will inflate the price. In the next couple of weeks we are certainly going to see if the guy has some 'gonads' and really whether the whole DoF role has been a major waste of time and money.....my bet.....it has.....any thoughts?
I'm not buying the 'dick will walk' lingo. Congers is caught between a rock and a hard place. What I mean by that mate is, imagine trying to buy a Ferrari but you've just spent 1 mill on a go kart that runs off milk... Your bloody buggered in my opinion..
You have to feel for Cngerton a bit, IMO he's still undoing the **** he was left by the previous idiot, De Fanti. We are left with a lot of overheads cos of that inept prick and Congerton is having to work with the constraints imposed on him. Imagine what it must be like trying to get players to come to us right now?
The only reason why I brought up the 'Dick will walk' because he stated at the end of last season we needed 6 quality signings to create competition at the club and take it forward. I'm presuming he was given assurances this would happen and was one of the reasons he changed his mind to come back for this season. If Congerton has done a 'bait and switch' tactic on him I don't think he would stay....imo
Does this Director of Football role for Sunderland work though? If one has to come in and clean up the others mess?
Fair points mate although we won't really know your answer until sept 1. Not getting enough quality in before Leicester was a worry. Losing our first two games has only intensified that tbf. Maybe Dick was given assurances based on the The club selling the deadwood? This hasn't happened therefore we are stuck in a predicament.
With the exception of Lens, nothing has come off for him, and if this is still the case when the window closes then IMO he has failed He has time to line up moves for players before the window opens. There is no evidence of this happening
Obviously it only works if he's any good at his job, same for any other position i suppose mate. Look at DA, Gus, Di Canio, O'Neil, Bruce, they all picked up the mess from their previous counterparts. It's debatable mate, but it seems the way the modern game is going and Short is in favour of it so guess we have to live with it. The days when the manager did everything are gone, now the manager is 'Head Coach'.
As I've said on other threads, i don't think this is the case. I believe it's more a case of getting players to come and lets face it, we're hardly an attractive proposition right now are we?
I have the same feeling I did wen I Said dick would come back. It's far to quiet on the transfer front at the minute and I believe we have quite a few irons in the fire and are quite happy to let the press talk ****e. I reckon we will have 3/4 quality additions in our squad by 1st September.
Your totally right and I presume Short feels he got burned by some of his managerial appointments. The interesting thing with this one is that Advocaat has a wealth of experience in the game....more so than Congerton....just hope he can come through with the signings we desperately need and give Dick the tools to work with...
Put yourself in a players shoes, yes DA has the credentials! In saying that why would a decent player come to SAFC not knowing who'll be our manager next season? Hierarchy has shot themselves and us in the foot IMO.
Cheers mate. I really needed that touch of positivity even if only for a short while. Just had an e-mail from a fellow mackem (and season ticket holder) work colleague who's back up in god's own country and he said that the prevailing mood up there is gloomy and the thinking is we need to go down to go forward again. Is that really the thinking up there? Hope its just his crowd and not everyone else's as well! Thats not the way forward for me!
It's very doom and gloom but as we sing things can only get better. We need some positivity and I'm trying my best to remain so as hard as that is. I love this club and I've been through more hard times than good over the years us as fans should show how good we are even if the teams ****. A positive crowd might just transfer to the pitch .
The players should be thinking "I want a bit of what Watmore got on Saturday" i.e rapturous cheers for effort and skill. You can't cheer rubbish.
U can cheer rubbish were Sunderland till will die not Larsson Kaboul Fletcher etc till we die this is our club not theres let's support the club the town the people who make our club not the over paid ****e on the pitch
