Another (pleasingly) tough decision because Dack & Egan are proving to be invaluable - but to be fair to others, I have decided 1. Norris - great work rate rewarded with a good goal. 2. Josh Wright. Played well at Port Vale - and last night did good work in midfield ( looks to be a bargain 'buy' ) 3. Donnolly - showed several signs of the potential he has. He could give McDonald a contest for the main striker role. No.3 could have been one of any of the others in the side. Nelson didn't have much to save -but made a brilliant stop in the 94th minute when it would have been easy for Hanson to score his 'third' goal of the night and deny Gills two points.
Hoadie Dickenson was used as LB (again). Whilst he's done quite well, my concern is that he doesn't ' think ' like a fullback. He has been too 'loose' on the forward he should be marking. Invariably this has allowed too much time and space on the ball. One occasion last night he was messing about in our half - trying to go past his man - near the line- there wasn't space and he lost the ball. A 'proper' fullback would have known to knock the ball off the forward to win a throw-in and thereby keep possession. Having said that, Dickenson is much improved so far this season, and provides an option where we need versatility.
1. 3 points (Man of the Match) - Josh Wright. Not as spectacular as Dack, but very effective and made some telling interceptions and passes 2. 2 points (2nd best performing player) - John Egan. Usual solid performance and seems to be reading the game better and better. 3. 1 point (3rd best performing player) - Rory Donnelly. Ran tirelessly and created plenty of problems for the Bradford midfield and defence
I think that is his main flaw still. Just needs to work on that. He has worked on his defensive play a lot and has improved so much. Probably to the level that he is now our most improved player. However at the moment with the start to the season he probably does deserve to start ahead of Garmston however I do see Garmston as the first choice with Dickenson as back up.
