... Bristol City (yes, Bristol City) are about to pay £9m for Andre Gray from Brentford. This is one of craziest deals I've seen. Have I missed something here, where are Bristol City getting their finances from?

Might be something to do with their billionaire owner (see link)! Oh and the fact that FFP means absolutely nothing these days...

Presumably the deal is £9 million with performance related bonuses- probably with a hefty amount coming from any promotion. Still a ridiculous amount for anybody outside the top league to pay. Not sure you can justify buying any striker for that kind of money considering how much we picked up Sears/Mcgoldrick/Murphy/Pitman for who are all probably of equal standard. Crazy world just getting crazier!

Wow, what's that all about then?
That's a big fee to pay for someone who may or may not help you get out of this league.
I prefer our way of doing things at the moment. We have a large enough debt as it is without adding to it with a transfer like that. Mick is doing a fine job of consistently improving the team without spending that kind of money anyway.

We need a goal scorer and that's what they cost these days

Bournemouth paid £8m for a right back who has only played 50-odd games didn't they?

And yes we do have a billionaire owner ($2billion according to Forbes) - Steve Lansdown (of Hagreaves Lansdown) comes from Brizzle and has owned the club for about 10 years. He is re-building the stadium, and (despite the Gray bid) actually runs the club in a sensible way.

We have tie-ins via Bristol Sport to the Ruby and Basketball clubs (both of which he owns)

    No they don't.
Our front four cost a combined 100K (which we paid for Sears) and they are all capable of 15/20 goals each if played regularly.
I think we have the best quartet of strikers in the league. <ok>

Sears, McGoldrick and Murphy are all good players - having seen Pitman for 3 seasons, I'm so sure about him

We still love Cole Skuse at Ashton Gate - a good lad as well

Pitman is doing a great job for us at the moment.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Sears finish top scorer this season, he's on fire.
Skuse is a great lad. Does his job well. A good screen for the back four <ok>

Smcbcfc I'm an Ipswich fan from Bristol, City are my local side.

Skuse is doing an evening with us in a pub next month, could find the details if you're interested in popping down? Pretty sure it's a friday in the fishmarkets tavern.

£9mill for Gray is ridiculous, but interesting to see Lansdown going a bit more gung ho. I think Gray will reject the deal personally, gut feeling.
