Why do all of our transfers seem to drag on for ever, I'm sure it isn't like this for other clubs. This isn't new either, I remember when Rio signed, it seemed to take the entire summer, and RVN went on/off/on for over a year. This Pedro deal is another example - we have the money, and at current market values he is a steal, he wants to leave Barca so wtf !! How come we don't see news reports of Woodward strolling through Barca airport making no comment as he heads to complete the deal I hope this isn't another Ramos/CR saga where our name is being used to manipulate a new deal
I've seen articles stating that his release clause is 21 odd million, but apparently we want to get him for a few million less than that. Hope that's not the case, if that is his release clause just pay it and get him in asap!
Negotiations dont work like of football manager. These deals are worth millions so saving the odd one is always good business. Also shows clubs we wont be taken to the cleaners quite so easily.
His fee of £22m is a snip at today's prices and, coming from Spain, his wage bill will be lower than that a comparable UK player. Merchandising will recoup a considerable slice of the transfer fee, so the faffing around for the odd £m off the transfer seems stupid to me - plus with others sniffing around it won't take long before his head is turned and he signs for someone else - that is the real danger with all this delay. In trying to save a few bob we are beaten to it and lose him altogether, worse still - to a PL rival.
I doubt Barca will make it difficult for Pedro to leave if he wants to. If we meet his release clause the deal will be done. Pedro himself has said it's not about the money so I doubt wages is a sticking point either. My gut feeling is that one of 2 things is stopping the deal... A) United are trying to bring the price down which imo would be nuts Or B) the player still isnt 100% committed to the move yet. As we saw with RVP the clubs actually came in at the end to agree the price so I have a feeling the reason is more likely B
I read somewhere that the release clause is actually considerably higher than quoted but that he had a verbal agreement that if a club offered €30 or so million then he could go.
Ramos signs new 5 year deal at Real Madrid. Quelle fckin surprise! Well worked by him but still a grade A **** Let this be a lesson to you Ed (another one).
Ed doesn't learn. Ed is a Marketing guy, a very good one at that but I don't think he'll ever be a good transfer negotiator.
Snubchester latest - Otamendi seems likely to sign for ££££ - why are we not in for this guy at the money - we need to strengthen in defence, he was voted best defender in La Liga team - yet is obviously not good enough for us. Obviously we have an eye on someone from Palace or QPR instead
UNITED CLOSE IN ON PEDRO Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward has flown to Spain to finalise a deal for Barcelona forward Pedro, according to the Daily Express. The 28-year-old may well be involved as Luis Enrique’s side take on Athletic Bilbao tonight, but the Express claims Woodward is there looking to seal a £22m deal.
Everton Agree btw, for the money I'd rather we go for an experienced and proven leader at the back in Otamendi than a young CB in Stones no matter how talented.
Tom Coast journo on Sports Witness is quite funny. #MUFC & #FCB talked about Pedro. €30m or nothing. Same stance. Ed Woodward already on way back to UK. Gonna go ahead and guess the talks were a bit longer than just "Hi, still €30m? OK. Bye!". No report of deal being struck, though.
OTAMENDI DEAL HITS SNAG Valencia have told Manchester City they want more money for Nicolas Otamendi’s proposed transfer to go through, according to Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague. Balague believes a deal had been in place for a fee of £28.4m plus France international Eliaquim Mangala being sent on loan to the Spanish team. Manuel Pellegrini has decided he wants to keep the 24-year-old in his squad and, with the terms of the agreement changing, Valencia are understood to have responded by saying they now want a higher fee for Otamendi.
