Well done on the winner; however... “cross card treble yesterday”? If this is the one that I am thinking that somebody bleated out mid-afternoon, it was not a Godolphin treble – Divine, the horse in the Pontefract 3:45 had similar colours to Godolphin but is owned by two Arab gents, Mr M Al-Qatami and Mr K M Al-Mudhaf. Godolphin owned Wanting in that race. French Blue in the Dundalk 3:40 was a Godolphin newcomer and Big Blue in the Deauville 3:45 was a Godolphin horse too. Pedant to the last...
That was an hour later (4:50), which is not really in-keeping with the “cross the card” epithet. I was in Ladbrokes for the Pontefract 3:45 (saw the other two races as well) and either the commentator or the Ladbrokes man busy trying to sell special bets on the Man City-Chelsea match said there was an across the card treble by Godolphin, which was what made me look at the time because the blue that Divine’s jockey wore was not the Godolphin blue but I think he just assumed it was a Godolphin horse because Sylvestre de Sousa was on it for Mick Shannon.
I didn't realise there was a time frame on it. Surely if you have a winner at ponte, one at ripon and one at Thirsk for example on the same day then that's across the cards? Regardless of what time they were at is that not the case??
5.10 Thirsk Ladweb 20/1 (EW) conditions will suit and has run well off higher marks than this, will go close soon and the stable have a habit of big priced winners in Sprint Handicaps, first time headgear fitted could make the difference in getting back to winning ways.
If you have a winner at 8 a.m, 2 p.m and 8 p.m on the same day at differing venues, it still constitutes as an across the card treble in anyone's book.
If I could find a website that quoted a definition, I would point you to it. Nowadays “(a)cross the card” is probably used quite liberally in just the same way that any high level of achievement is considered “legendary” and “legends” abound. When I used to work for a bookie last century, an (a)cross the card double/treble was always considered to be something that a punter would have done within a limited span of time.
A day is relatively a very short amount of time. Short enough for across the card trebles to be deemed so. Maybe we are just different in Ireland with our views but a treble is a treble no matter what way you look at it. I am aware of what you are saying though, i know bookies view the across the card as bet's done within the same time period but talking of Owner's, I feel that having a treble on the same day can be viewed that way too.
Rio Ronaldo might be the one if I had to back something in it but it look's trappy enough. Foxtrot has been well beaten the last two starts but Ruth might have gotten some more improvement from him, you never know. He's still lightly raced.
