If Les now needs a nudge to get both CB's we are chasing in, then he isn't the man I thought he was after the complete shambles of todays game
Buying a CB doesn't solve the issues that have been highlighted today. That's about putting another solid player in midfield.
Yes and no. We need another DM in there alongside Victor, but if we bring in VVD, we can always use Maya as LB until Bertrand is back fit. He won't have the attacking threat, but is sound enough defensively there.
We only need one CB, and that's VVD. What we were missing today was midfielders, as soon as Romeu came on alongside Vic, we look much more solid. Yoshida had a very good game against Lukaku as well.
VVD now please! When do Celtic find out if they're in or out? An extra CB would be a nice luxury, perhaps someone who is versatile and can also play CDM?!
I have to disagree about yoshida having a good game I'm afraid. He was isolated by poor tactics, but he looked unconvincing to say the least to me
And it was Lukaku. He's patchy to say the least but a real threat on his day. Second time he's shown up at SMS. West Brom was the other time. His threat should have been anticipated.
I bet his threat was anticipated and plans laid, but he played at his best and we couldn't cope. I doubt he was overlooked.
If I was Ronald/Les I would be saying to Celtic that unless they made the deal now we would be moving on to another target.
So we miss out on our first choice because of impatience? The deal will happen, just like Forster and Wanyama. This is the only issue with buying from Celtic, that they want to wait until CL qualifiers (for obvious and understandable reasons).
And that is the problem with the transfer window running into when the season starts. All the transfers should take place pre-season so it doesn't affect teams preparations for the forth coming season. Or it should be old school....scrap the windows all together??
We don't 'need'. We want. We have Fonte, Yoshida, Caulker and McCarthy. The pairing of those first two has proved to be more than adequate over a larger sample. Say, three years. Not one game.
DTLW, I have to disagree that they've been more than adequate over three years. I'd say they were just adequate but grew and Yoshida did well last year when he came in. I don't thibk "adequate" is what Saints want anymore. We/they want to drive forward.
Oh, I agree that 'adequate' is not what Saints 'want'. But it's something we can handle for one more league game.
I think Targett's a bigger worry frankly. Newcastle isolated Sissoko against him and Everton did the same with Kone. Might need to go 3 at the back to plug the huge gaps that exist in that left centre back-left back channel
