I hate him but he's true. The last bit proves why I've been banging on about Watmore playing for ages :- Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson accused Sunderland of a lack of desire in their 3-1 defeat to Norwich. Merson was on the Soccer Saturday panel to watch Sunderland succumb to a 3-1 home defeat to newly-promoted Norwich just one week after losing 4-2 to Leicester. And the former Arsenal winger thinks Sunderland could quickly find themselves in a relegation dogfight if players do not show a greater level of commitment. "They're all over the place," he said on Soccer Saturday. "I’ve been in teams where you’re getting well beaten at home when the crowd are on your back and it isn’t nice. You’ve got to show a bit about you and today if any of those players said: ‘could I go off?’ they would’ve all gone off." He added: "(Costel) Pantilimon made one mistake for the last goal but bar that he’s been very good. "I watched them last week and it was bad. It was much worse today. Much worse, really bad. Fans were leaving 37 minutes into the game when the second goal went in." Merson also doesn't feel the players are giving their all for manager Dick Advocaat. He continued: "No disrespect to Norwich but they’ve absolutely rinsed Sunderland," "At the moment they’re (Sunderland) all over the place, never looked like winning any of the games and when I always look at games they don’t look like they’re running around for the manager like they were last year, that’s my opinion." Duncan Watmore came on as a 69th minute substitute to make his Premier League debut. The 2014/15 U21 Premier League Player of the Year scored a consolation goal in the 87th minute, and Merson thought he put in a very impressive performance. "Watmore came on and the crowd went mental," he said. "He was so enthusiastic. He was running and closing people down, he was running past his own players to close people down. He tried to take people on and sometimes there isn’t a fear factor for young kids and then he gets his goal. So pleased for the kid - good when he came on." Promoted Stories
Sums it up mate when even fellas like him are nailing it on the head. I wanna know mate, did you skull your beer when Watmore scored?
The problem is we still have the rotten core (players) running our club most have that been there done that attitude. Sad thing is we are still adding these players to our squad Kaboul and defore being our latest. Watmore was a breath of fresh air when he came on we need 4/5 young blood in our side.
Put the U'21s out! Every last one of them! At least we'd see some commitment, hunger and passion. And if they get slaughtered, the results wouldnt be any different to what they are now.
I saw the title and read 'Merson', i hate that ****. BUT, he has it nailed on despite being a complete twat. Good pic yesterday mate, reminded me of me and my youngen at the last derby, totally wasted. Good on yer mate.
from the BBC- Comedian David Schneider suggested the following tip to cheer up Dick Advocaat: "Sunderland. Get your players to start winning matches by telling them it's actually April."
hate to say it but he's right...............too many of them are not playing for Dick, somethings gone seriously wrong since that fighting performance at Arsenal. It needs sorting right now..............lock them all in a room and don't leave till it's sorted.
Agreed mate, if it was my decision I'd throw them in the room with Mick Taylor (Billy) he'd soon kick the **** outta em and we'd have 3pts in the bag against the sheep shaggers!
Let's hope Watmore doesn't score for a while otherwise, if he turns out to be any good then he'll be sold. That's the sort of thinking going around now.
I quite like Merson he knows his football, also we will lose Watmore anyway as he is out of contract at the end of this season and he would be mad to stay here.
