What then? Ok maybe just paper talk, but would you be suprised if it was to happen? Jermain Defoe could be on the way out at Sunderland just seven months after arriving, writes Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People. The 32-year-old striker is understood to be keen to move back south and the Black Cats may sell the former England man to fund new signings. Defoe signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light in January after returning from Canada, where he played for MLS side Toronto. Sunderland look in disarray already this season after losing 4-2 to Leicester on the opening day and slumping to a 3-1 home defeat to Norwich on Saturday. Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat is desperate to add at least two more names to his ranks before the transfer window closes in a fortnight’s time.
I voted on the ;he'll on work in a changed system'. But it's a catch 22...Yes maybe his best days are ahead of him, yes he is paid a lot of money. He doesn't do to much in the way of graft really. Flipside is, he's the best we have got by far, i still reckon that he could score a bagful, but just not in this team. So it's either change the system and work around him, or let him go. Folks will say, let him go, and get someone else....Ok makes sense, also maybe easier said than done. I'm waffling, as i don't know...Had high hopes for him, was a class act..
Don't care but I think we need a striker up front who can hold the ball up and bring others into play I would rather have had lambert or go get Austin unless things change this transfer window I have had about enough I've been going 50 years and I have never been so frustrated as I am now I honestly thought Dick was the man so unless Short and congerton do something I can see Dick walking nobody wanting the job and us relegated by March. Teams around us are buying quality we buy hopefuls
We need to keep him, period. We've lacked creativity In our midfield for years now, that article by the way is some prick making it all up himself.. Defoe came out and said he wants 20 goals this season.. I hardly believe he wants to jump ship already.
No that was just a story to make a thread out of...May or may not be true. Why would Defoe stay? One reason, he's on a shed load of money....Another reason..........sorry mate, i'm at a loss to find one.
That is true...But in Defoes case, i would certainly not be suprised if an offer came in, he'd be asking the manager to take it. I still think he'd thrive in the right team.
He probably would but I just can't see him going.. Last nite mate before the game, I looked at Norwich line up and didn't feel threatened to be honest lol how wrong was I The players must go home to their wives and cry like bitches.. It's too hard to play at SOL blah blah blah... I said it last season, we have little boys on the pitch for SAFC at the moment. We need grown men
I'd be more concerned if the point about selling to fund new signings was true, to be honest. I really don't want him to leave, he's the only one we have got who will score goals. I wonder if Short knows we are fighting a losing battle over Alvarez and is already including that 7 million in the 'money spent'. We need players with something to prove and that can offer us something different, Lens and M'Vila look to be good starts, but we need more like them instead of the big reputation players like O'Shea, Brown, Johnson and Rodwell. Our team is one dimensional and full of plodders, we need height, pace and creativity in our side, if we are going to turn this around.
Can't see Defoe leaving mate, if Alvarez is a lost battle then let's get him in the squad. Injured last season I know but we have nothing to lose. Agree that lens and M'Villa can be improvements but we need more IMO. I miss Malbranque..
Malbranque - Sess, I'd give anything to have them back now. Quality players with plenty of creativity. Alvarez is a good player, he showed enough glimpses last season so I hope we are keeping him fit cos he could be a key player yet.
I miss those fellas too mate, at times we are a bunch of donkeys on the pitch.. Sorry again about the other nite mate.. Really hope to have a beer with you one day.
I should apologise as well mate, I took things to far, so sorry about that and yeah I'm still up for the beer with you. I've requested to be banned four times now but it's still not gone through. I do need a break from here, I've got a lot going on in my personal life and don't need the distraction of this at the moment. I know you're going to say just don't log back in, but it's not that easy!
We'll enjoy a beer together mate! Don't be silly about being banned lol. Your very much respected on here and I've always thoroughly enjoyed your views on SAFC. I believe we are lucky to have you mate. Top bloke
Think Defoe is the classiest act up front we have, yes he can,t Hold ball up, likes it in front of him but with Fletch playing we,ll not get the ball held up either, maybe Graham would be better at it?. There was little or no link between back four and midfield, we ended up getting long balls pumped up the park to 2 strikers who don,t seem to handle that, till we have creative midfield nothing is going to get better as ball comes back so fast nobody can settle. Agree that PVA either needs his head sorting or dropping, he couldn't, trap a bag of cement yesterday along with going AWOL but maybe this is what he,s being told to get up there as soon as poss, needs to work with his winger
