Last season we had 3 experienced strikers (Rooney, van Persie and Falcao), I don't think they got 30 goals between them. Do you think it will be worse with Rooney as first choice and Hernandez + Wilson as back up with Memphis helping out?
Yes we need a goalscorer, but the goals will not come easily without a cf/striker that will cause problems for defence with his runs or physical precense, hold the ball well and bring other players into play .(unless we want to play with a false 9). Rooney is not doing that presently and even if we get a wing forward who is a proven scorer, without decoy runs from Rooney he will hardly score. A cf doesn't necessarily need to score 30+ goals but his overall play comes into play and ability to score goals out of nothing. Why is Muller rated as one of the best strikers? He doesn't even score 20 goals a season.
You answered your own question. Firstly Muller will do things other than score goals. Secondly, he's not always been or always is a striker. He's scored about 1 every 2.5 games in the league which is pretty good for an attacking midfielder which he mostly has been.
This is just an exercise in futility. We're comparing apples and oranges. Why are we looking at what Barca or Real or Bayern are doing? When did we as a club ever do that. They have different styles and different types of players all over the pitch. What their forwards are doing is based on their quality up front, out wide and in midfield...most of which is far superior to ours at the moment. Therefore discussing the attributes of any one of their players in isolation is nonsense. We should be thinking about where we are and what our needs are. Right now it's simple. Over the last 2 seasons we've lost 3 strikers - ALL of who were considered to be better than the alternatives we have now. A lot of this debate is convoluted and misdirection by ppl trying to convince themselves that RVP never existed nor needed. That Falcao was never brought in for a reason. That there's no problem with our goalscoring. Strip away all the bull5hit and it's simple. We need another striker
I think that proves why we need them. Our aims were lower than they are this season. Add to that, the fact we failed miserably in tge domestic cups. We got away with it. We wont this season. RVP was injured, Falcao was a flop. But let me ask you this, when Forlan flopped did we decide we didnt need a striker anymore or did we go out and buy a certain Wayne Rooney????
