Definitely... Good performance today and relieved we could see one out although we should've put it to bed before stoppage time, great save from Bart at the end. The extra options we have now will hopefully do wonders for us this season.
I thought Chambers looked pretty good today and Fraser was a little quiet.....but overall I thought we look a much better team than last year....imo
That's right BA try as he might Chambers is not and never will be a RB, he got turned inside out for their goal and we have Emanuell on the bench doing nothing, but a well earned 3 points and many chances created so it cant be far wrong.
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, made the effort to get down to PR today and came away very glad that I did! Sat in the Sir Alf Ramsey suite and the view could not have been better (right next to the Wednesday supporters who I thought were great all game so credit to them!). The match was a strange one where both teams blew hot and cold. Wednesday looked far better in the middle of the park but were lacking any danger up top whereas Town are very top heavy at the minute which is great to watch! Very impressed with Sears and Fraser who looked like our most dangerous players throughout. Thought Murphy was strangely quiet but maybe I was expecting too much after what he achieved last year. Good/important goal from Smith but not sure I'm entirely convinced he is a championship winning centre half, same could be said for Chambers at right back. Would love to see Chambers moved in field and a proper right back brought in (using Emmanuel as cover). Be interested to hear your guys thoughts on this. New left back looks solid and his long throws are a huge weapon! All in all I was very happy as I left PR today and with Bru/Bishop to come back in the midfield to help out Skuse (who made a goal-saving challenge in the first half) I think this season will be an extremely pleasing one for us ITFC fans! Onto the next one- Tuesday I believe?
I agree Lucas,Chambers is fine at Centre Half and shown great commitment at Full Back but is found out against half decent opposition. WCP,there keeper got clattered and struggled after until taken off.
I'll gladly take those three points against a much-improved Sheffield Wednesday side. Burnley on Tuesday will be interesting. I'm pleased with Bart between the sticks yesterday, although he wasn't made to work much I thought his handling was near perfect. I was concerned at our defence at times, we looked a little susceptible down the flanks, but we can probably let Knudsen off slightly as he's still adapting and, inconsistent distribution aside, I thought he had a decent game. Douglas and Skuse looked a combative and industrious pairing in the middle. The fact we fielded all four strikers at the end of the game shows that McCarthy isn't adverse to playing with risks, particularly as his defensive substitutions against Brentford arguably led to our collapse. Fraser was ineffective today, I thought Miles done well though. Finally, credit to Sears, he is currently my favourite Ipswich player. His performance was particularly important considering Murphy's anonymous display.
Not that I've seen us once this season, but I'd all day long have Emmanuel at RB ahead of Chambers, and move Chambers to CB. Chambers doesn't impress me much at RB, and sorry but Smith at times switches off - yes he scored yesterday, and yes he will score 4- 6 from CB this season but he will also cost us some stupid goals. I wish he could address that! That said, I guess two 17 y/olds on the right wing together is a little ridiculous! Big test Tuesday.
Westy,Smith's two main problems are 1)he's left footed and is being asked to play out of his natural position and 2)he can't deal with a high ball once it's bounced. You're right we should be moving Chambers in to his best position and getting a proper RB,but, hey we've known that for several seasons and don't seem any closer to resolving it given the youthfulness of the alternatives!
