Ok, so that was pretty awful. The good news is Romeu looks brilliant, i mean hes clearly unfamiliar with the concept of passing forward but he has a lot of steel and will protect the back four really well.

    The bad:
Cedric isnt a fan of defending apparently, he's great going forward but just kind of does nothing when we lose possesion.
Maya, some serious **** ups, we need another cb, he wasent up to scratch
Targett, got beat way to easily. He was targeted and failed accordingly
Davis...honestly i dont get why he gets a start, yeah he's solid but he doesnt do anything of note...he's just kinda there, making safe passes and adding mass to the middle of the field.

Theres a lot more to say but i cant really be bothered. We deserved to lose (though 3-0 is not a fair reflection) and our defense needs a fair bit of fixing.

Hey look, here's a weird one. I'm actually quite enthused after that game (for many of the reasons Templar highlights above).

First off - Everton, and particularly Lukaku, were brilliant today. Absolutely excellent in both counter-attack and defence. They'd have turned over most teams playing like that, absolutely no doubt. Very, very impressive (on this showing). Every team in this division can turn out a performance like that - we did it against a few teams last season. When it happens, it's very hard to do much about it.

Secondly - if there's any blame to be attached today, it's not to Maya, or Davis or whatever, it's to Ronald. That formation in the first half didn't and doesn't work. He'll know that now. We looked a lot better once Romeu came on so I presume that thought process will continue. We can see the weaknesses, so we can work on those.

Thirdly - In terms of the players - Romeu looks like potentially a solution to the Morgan deficit. Clasie I think might be an upgrade on Davis. So those weaknesses are being addressed, but it's very, very early in the season. Let the players, and the manager, find their feet with this new squad. I also thought Pelle looked good today and Mane is always a threat. Even in this game where we were controlled by the opposition, had one of our chances crept in it could have looked very different. It didn't. That's football sometimes.

Honestly, I think there's a lot more to be positive about as things unfold than there is to be too worried by. The introduction of a quality new CB will do us the world of good too. Chins up.

What is just as much an area of concern as defence is how attacking we play and still can't score or get many on target. Saying that, thought Mane and Pelle were good. Our set pieces continue to let us down badly. Almost resent getting corners and freekicks, as I did last season - we're more threatening when we're inm open play.

The only issue we might have with Europa is more games, more injuries - we already have quite a few injuries (several long term) so could do without, but I would like us to go as far in the Europa League as we can. I don't understand the idea of fighting so hard to get into a competition then basically throwing it away as if achieving it was the only thing that mattered.

Anyway, some positives there. J-Rod got some more minutes which will do him some good, Romeu looked good and we looked stronger with him there, for all the stick Targett got last week I didn't think he was that bad (though he wasn't the best player on the pitch either). We got in some good positions early on even if we didn't manage to finish them off and we didn't lack opportunities which would be a bigger issue than just not scoring. There's enough to take away that we can use to our advantage.

Your a fan of a team that just got hammered at home your entitled to let off steam so long as it doesn't get out of hand I don't know why people get so hung up on fans reactions on forums - I expect people to be fuming just like I am

And tomorrow I will be just about ok again - that's just being a normal fan

Would you donate your salary if you accidentally tipped the brown bin into the green bin lorry?

A bad day at the office that's all. You have a solid squad and you'll learn from today. But to say things like donate their salaries is plain stupid.

Couldn't disagree more, I've been saying for ages that it's very likely that last year is as good as it will get league wise, I want us to go full tilt in Europe and try and get as far as we can, otherwise what was the point in our great year last year? Dunno about others but in may I was celebrating the fact we qualified for Europe more than the fact we finished 7th.

Hate to say it but Koeman error. Can't do anything else with that back 4 but given our weakness in defence starting Vic and Davis as CDM is crazy. Do we really need long mane and tadic alongside Pelle?
We did some nice stuff going forward but had no control of midfield. Obv we miss Morgan but any extra body would have been better than that attacking line up.
Yoshi was very variable and the situation with targett reminded me of fox and hoover at times.

Good post, a bad day at office of course, but not overly worried. That may change if we start with all of Mane, Tadic Pelle & Jrod/Long again at Watford though.

We have lost some very big players and only bought on a small financial scale so far hopefully things will improve on that front soon
