Cool Warrior 10/1 Tramore 5.50 (Boyles) tackles this 0-95 off 83 having scored by 14 lengths to Heavenly Brook when last sighted at Fairyhouse in November. Heavenly Brook is now rated 109 (was 102 when Cool Warrior beat him) so I would imagine Cool Warrior still has a few lbs in hand possibly. He has been beaten off marks in the 80's previously but has had his excuses (don't they all) He will be suited by the good ground and the trip also poses no problem. Tramore can be a bit hit and miss for first time visitors, so hopefully the selection takes to the sharp oval track and put's his head in front where it matters. If he's ready to roll on his 1st outing this year I'm hopeful he can place at the least. All the best folks
Best of luck sth, hope the old boy obliges for you!find the flat racing can be a bit dull this time of year, looking forward to the autumn leaves falling and the jumps season already
REGAL PARADE 12-1 Newmarket 6.00 Now 11 years old but won this race last year off a mark 1lb higher beating Joe Packet by 1/2 length. That was run on soft going so the current wet weather will hold no fears for this chap. He is racing for a different yard this season but they have probably had this race earmarked for him for some time. His most recent form figure suggests a tailing off of form but in fact he was beaten that far at all and it may even have been a better piece of form than some of his placed runs. Regardless of this his current mark fits the bill and in this race of well exposed types you have to believe that he will not be far away. The 3yo's are all ahead of him in the betting and the age group does have a decent record in the race but the yards represented are not really the ones that would catch the eye and I would say that with the possible exception of Stake Acclaim they are probably handicapped up to the hilt with very little room for improvement. I cant see REGAL PARADE being far away and I am also tempted to have a crack at the forecast with STAKE ACCLAIM.
Apart from the falling leaves it has felt more like Autumn/Winter this summer bar the past 2 day's! It is hard to beat a fine crisp day when the jumps are in action. I love being at Leopardstown over the Christmas meeting, the cold air is warmed by the brilliant atmosphere and the smell of a few hot whiskey's or two throw in the top leppers and what more could ya want!
4:30 Newbury - Even Stevens 16/1 ew have put this up a couple of times only for it to be withdrawn shortly before the off. If it runs today I expect it to go close and at the price is well worth a go
What's the thinking behind this? His form is woeful this year and only ever seems to win on the all weather. Granted his mark is much lower on turf but probably for good reason. The only positive I see is that he's dropping in grade slightly. Best of luck though.
Morning all. Just had a quick glance at the Hungerford stakes tomorrow and the one that stands out to me is Cabal Bay. I was really impressed with his win at haydock and then ran a nice race behind Arod on ground which was too quick. There should be enough juice in the ground tomorrow and I think he's a cracking ew bet,
In the current edition of ‘The Weekender’ Charlie Hills states that Cable Bay is currently working better than he has done all year. Looks a very tough and competitive race though and, on that changeable going, wouldn’t be the sort of heat I’d want to get involved in. It looks the sort of trappy contest where you could pick half a dozen and not get one placed! I would imagine though that the one at Newbury, tomorrow, Charlie Hills will most be keen to see is the Sheikh Hamdan homebred, who makes her racecourse bow, in the card commencer (1.25). According to the above named publication (its words not mine) Jadaayil is rumoured to be very smart.
That was only the latest forfeit stage. Most of the UK-trained horses dropped out. From what I read, O’Brien only intends to run a couple (Aloft and Bondi Beach), Richard Hannon supplemented Tashaar and St Leger favourite Storm The Stars is not a guaranteed runner. So it looks like there might only be five or six going to post. The Juddmonte International will only have four or five runners, one of which will be a pacemaker for Golden Horn (assuming that he shows up). I will not be going as I have already been to one no show by the Derby winner and my suspicion is that Gleneagles may not stay so the finish will not be a battle of the two best three year olds. Everybody is on weather watch for York next week. I do not know how much of the rain they got (or will get today) but just up the road at Catterick and Ripon it is reported as “good to soft”. The weather has already made most of this weekend’s fixtures no bets. It is “soft” at Newbury thanks to the deluge yesterday. Hopefully they do not get it too heavy at Newmarket today or it could be a blank betting weekend.
The change of going already hitting Newbury tomorrow with 6 non-runners thus far – including some ‘biggies’ in Limato and Home of the Brave in the Hungerford and Havana Beat in the ‘Geoffrey Freer’. You do have to wonder, if she really is so good, if Charlie Hills’ will run Jadaayil, on such rain softened ground, on debut. Hardly going to be a gentle introduction! It’s bucketing (to use a scientific meteorological term) it down across the county line and if this moves on into Royal Berkshire you do have to expect the word ‘heavy’ to appear soon.
Tramore 5.15 -Lettermacaward win 11/2.Won here in May and yard in decent form, this lad can take this at a nice price.
SWASHBUCKLING 9/2 Newc 4:10 Sustained support for this one since markets opened yesterday evening. Not a yard you would immediately associate with first time out winners but also not a yard that often leave their gambling money in the bookies satchels. Right man in the saddle also. Decent pedigree on paper although the siblings have been a tad disappointing.
Racing Post headline currently reads that 'Supplementing Dick an easy decision- Gosden' I don't know if I wanted to know that information.
It’s an even easier decision when someone else’s money is paying the supplementary fee. It always makes me chuckle when these reports bias it from the side of the trainer as if they are the one’s putting their hands in their pocket and paying the money! This decision is obviously, in theory, to make things tougher for Gleneagles. You can almost hear old boy Gosden saying to old boy Oppenheimer, ‘I have a cunning plan’. Will it though have the alternative effect of setting it up for Time Test??? He’ll relish the chance to quicken off a decent pace. And as we’ve seen already this term Time Test can quicken, to devistating effect, in a matter of strides!
