It might have done, I couldn't reliably state that there were 3 of them here to be fair as I only heard them / it as they / it were / was above the clouds at about 5 to 5 so a little bit late too.

These sort of anecdotes I'll be sharing with my grandchildren one day I'm sure.

Might have been exciting if they were Messerschmitts.

I thought they were supposed to fly over Hull?

Maybe they should have used German pilots. They seemed to find us easily enough.

Above cloud height? In between seeing the four in Ferriby and the one nearly an hour later in Swanland, I saw two typhoons below the cloud line.

They came over the Humber further west than people were expecting, meaning my pictures were rubbish as my tripod was pointing the wrong way.

Does anyone know what the smoke was about? It looked like it was somewhere near the bridge toll booths.

I'm sure they were low down, they certainly sounded it, but the cloud was really low too

Was driving towards North Ferriby to watch them with the top down when I heard them going directly overhead, great sound and view.

I had forgotten then heard that sound and saw them fly low overhead...luckily under the cloud. There had been a couple of jet fighters earlier in the day. Anyone remember the time the Concorde flew low over Hessle? I assume on the way to an air show in Lincolnshire.

We didn't win the war with spitfires. We won the Battle of Britain because young pilots, some with a mere 6 hours training, went up in Spitfires and Hurricanes and put their lives on the line - and most of them lost their lives.
I'm one of the few on here who witnessed (and survived) the bombing in Hull. Missing those old Spitfires would have been a let down for the 'old uns' who could remember what it was like but most of you have no idea just how much was owed to those pilots who after the war, especially when they reached retirement age, were treated like second hand citizens.
