He wasn't playing regularly, but then again, players like Remy and Cuardado don't play regularly for Chelsea, Also, his position was occupied by the best left back in the world at the time, so he could hardly an easy feat breaking in the team. But when he played, he showed he wasn't out of his depth at that level of football. I watched him in Chelsea and i can confirm that. I haven't watched him much in Villa, so I can tell how good or bad was he. I wasn't really trying to counter your argument, more trying to express suspicion about his awfulness in Villa about which I read all the time when Bertrand is mentioned. So you have watched him enough in Villa shirt that you can say with confidence that he was awful in Villa?
He was definitely not awful at villa. He was distinctly average though. They were an awful side that season under lambert, any player would have struggled. In a similar vein, I think that a player educated at Espanyol/Barca will not have been able to flourish at a poor Stuttgart side. I have been wrong before, but having seen Romeu a lot, if he can iron out some defensive lapses then he could be a huge coup.
I can say with confidence he wasn't good and a completely different player to the one who played for us. That is what I am saying can happen with our latest signing. My only point is that we shouldn't judge a player based on his performances in a different environment, we should see what happens. More significant for me was the fact that the Chelsea fan recognised that a revolution is happening down here. It may not be all Ronald's work, but he's the face on it.
