I don't see the attraction with Vaz Te, think he's an average player we should be setting the targets higher than that
Thing is though, you're just going on what you know of him in terms of stats, whereas Bruce will have had him well scouted and will be aware of the other things he can offer the team besides just goalscoring. We wouldn't be paying £9m if it wasn't warranted; there's obviously something about him that our management rate, which I suspect is why Brentford are so eager to hang onto him.
Look at the strikers. We have Akpom and two high earners who we are trying to sell and two youngsters. If we bring in Gray, even on reasonable wages, we will be in an awkward position with the high earners. The problem is I dont see us selling them until the last day of the window. We could then be trying to buy Gray or somebody else in the last few hours.
I think we should be looking beyond this season. Vaz Te has had his chance, we had a look at Wells here before and we decided he wasn't up to it. At least with Gray he has made giant strides from Conference to Championship ...he might be the real deal and good enough for the top league - he's sonewhat of a gamble and at £7-9 million total package perhaps a bit too expensive. I'd rather take a chance on him with his attributes or Gayle - who himself has delivered in the premier league.
Yes, stats are only one part. On the football show on saturday night Martin Allen was saying that they copy the show highlights and put them in a file for each club and review them. I'd just been thinking how silly it is to go by the highlights where you usually see somebody impressively scoring a goal but you rarely see any of the bad play which could make up 90% or more of a players contribution.
if hernandez and jela were willing to give it a go we would all be happy after all its a 17 million strike force that should tear the championship apart how ever they have got to put some effort it something jela is not willing to do, they both want to be away so if that's their attitude get rid if we can. its a shame but want can you do even when their wages are halved they are proberly still on 25 to 30, 000 a week its a disgrace when you see someone not trying
Sometimes I think this City Transfer thread is a bit like a man with a hole in his pocket looking for his loose change in the gutter.
James Wilson had lunch with Mke Phelan today in a pub nr Bramhall, Cheshire. There was another young man with them who I didn't recognize. My first transfer scoop!!
