...over the next four years, that's a £60m increase on the previous deal.

That's good, but still not good enough.

How does this compare to the increased tv deal percentage-wise?

Number of coaches with Pro and UEFA badges.

    SPAIN -------------------- 14,860
    GERMANY ---------------- 6,570
    FRANCE ------------------- 2,588
    ITALY ----------------------- 1,810
    NETH'NDS ----------------- 1,137
    ENGLAND ----------------- 1,010

Lower down the qualifications Spain has over 30,000 coaches compared to our 2,700. In fact they have almost as many working in schools 2,500 as we have in total. Germany has about27,000, Holland 15,000.
Kids get coaching at schools and at night and weekends on all weather pitches which they have in virtually every village in Holland and Germany and in schools in Spain. We have no chance of competing with that. There would be uproar at the thought of paying football coaches out of school budgets, especially from the lefties, and the right would object to training facilities being cheaply and widely available.
Meanwhile young people sit in their bedrooms playing on FIFA and ever more people get excited sat in pubs about a bunch of foreigners representing a club they have no connection with playing on the TV in the supposed best league in the world.

The TV deal is the Premier League, this is the FA.

I'd like to see where it all goes, full breakdown of it.
Prospective coaches have to pay to do their badges, so...

Just what does the Fa do in our area? Genuine question.

Are they full time and taking a wage, how many etc

School playing fields were sold off for housing years ago, at the same time all the 'no ball games allowed' signs went up. People watch football on telly, and play football on telly (fifa etc) now. More widely, funding for grass roots sport was reduced as the government focused spending for athletes only on athletes that would give gold medals at olympics. This worked in returning gold medals in the short term, copying what the Australians did for the 2000 Sydney olympic games, but it doesn't work in the long run. Australia won 58 medals in 00 down to 35 at London. http://www.topendsports.com/world/countries/australia/sport/events/olympics/medals.htm Now we see a reduction in the overall number of people playing sport and the cost of the 2012 games is roughly double the widely reported figure. Oh well, we reap what we sow.
For long term success it is clear that you need a robust base with a focus on the right processes, not short term focus on results.

So the football league doesn't have a tv deal? And the premier league tv deal has nothing to do with the fa?

I've no idea what they do or don't fund, the last deal is on the FA website, though I can't get the application attachment to open:

    FA Funding

Funding is available upon application, subject to meeting certain criteria, from the Football Foundation, the UK’s largest sports charity. Funded by The Football Association, the Premier League and the Government, the Foundation directs £36m every year into grassroots sport.

These three partners have committed further funding into the Football Foundation with a new agreement lasting to 2013. The Foundation has been working closely with its Trustees with a view to introducing revised funding criteria with the emphasis on making the maximum impact with the available budget.

The Football Foundation is currently accepting new Expressions of Interest for those who want to apply for facility funding. These Expressions of Interest will be managed under the current process in partnership with The FA and County Football Associations. For further information please contact your parent County FA’s Development Manager or your FA Regional Facilities Manager.

McDonald’s also provide funding support, for smaller projects between £500 and £2500, to help develop football from the grassroots. Whether your club would benefit from a new set of goals, your own line marker, or funding to send your coaches on courses, the KickStart Grant scheme offers flexible support to help your club develop. Find out more here.

Needless to say our charges are higher than in other countries. Also, despite being less, Ot takes over 400 hours in Spain compared to 250 here.

All I can see is these out of date figures that mention a 42% increase in home tv rights money in 2012, and a 272% increase in international tv rights, again in 2012. Both of these increases dwarf the 30% increase in grass roots football trumpeted in this thread. Obviously it isn't comparing apples and apples, but I strongly suspect that the FA's income has if anything increased at a greater rate than previous increases. The FA don't seem keen to announce the size of their last tv rights deal, so I guess it could have gone either way.

FA announce their latest tv rights deal (but don't say how much they got): http://www.thefa.com/News/2013/jul/bt-sport-bbc-itv-2014-18.aspx
Value of earlier deal (and increases) from wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Football_Association#Finances

I literally could not give the slightest **** about this.

Those figures are from 2008, they include the failed Setanta deal, the FA are poor compared to the Premier League, their total income is only about £300m.

Oh aye misread wikipedia, however the overall point remains; not that it is much of a point. Except that I do get tired of endlessly being presented with figures, without context, in press releases that often wilfully misrepresent the overall facts. Surely everyone gets sick of that **** like the Chinese water torture of bullshit.

I mean, if they just once came out with a press release along the lines of 'The FA are delighted to announce they are decreasing their investment in grass root football by 15% through to 2018, compared to the investment made from 2012!' it actually would really brighten my day up.

They could add on 'But don't worry, given that no one plays football any more it represents an increase of 200% per actual footballer, given that all you fat ****s want to play FIFA and there aren't any pitches left to play on even if you wanted to.' if they want.

It already says they're increasing the spend, it's 30% more than the previous deal.

    Those figures are very misleading.
other European countries automatically transferred qualifications to Uefa B,A and pro
Even for coaches who where no longer active.
England's figures though still behind Germany's are accurate to what coaches we actually have working and completed the Uefa qualifications.

The FA have got a lot wrong but I think they are taking steps in the right direction now and deserve credit.
The biggest problem still in grassroots is the English mentality.

We are find behind other countries at all levels as far as qualified coaches go. David Conn did an excellent article on the subject a couple of years ago.
Then there is the subject of facilities, another area we lag far behind in.
