HE didnt get 2.4 billion flinging coin about like a loon. IMO he couldnt give a $2 **** about safc the club, he cares about safc the business entity.
I wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to make us a viable business i.e. not operating at a loss , then flog us to the highest bidder and cash out. I dont think it started out like that , but i cant see him enjoying the football lark like. Strikes me as a bloke who likes success.
Yeah, but the ones I've mentioned were all recent. Villa - £40m Swansea £30m Southampton £140m? 12 months max in Southampton's case. What you've highlighted there is about £50m worth of profit I'd imagine, spanning back to the summer of 2011. I could chuck a few more in over the years from those clubs, Joe Allen, Scott Sinclair, Ashley Young, Stewart Downing, not much else from Southampton really. I'm not saying it explains all of the investment, Stoke's owners seem to just love the club and give it a lot of support for example. That lot though, they're spending money they've brought in through player sales, no doubt about it.
I have spoken with people who know Short many times, I really hope he likes motor racing and I get to meet him next season. Everyone has told me he is very shrewd with his money. I will not go into details on a public forum but he will invest more money once he sees improvement, if you notice he gave Bruce more money when we started to do well, then Bruce got it all wrong and we went from mid table to relegation fodder. He then gave MON a small fortune, MON then made us worse. He experimented with PDC and more disaster. He liked Gus and gave him plenty of time but again he was given money and his big signings like Rodwell did not turn up. Now it's Dicks turn. Money will come if Dick proves his players are worth it. I firmly believe if we can make it to mid table Short will take a gamble of spending some money to get us into Europe but first we must get into a decent league position for a couple of seasons.
Well he cares more about the business entity because that's what he's good at. He employs 'football men' to take care of safc the club which they're supposed to be best at. Guess who's doing his job best - him or them.
Is that a trick question? ES should be given a break as Vegas and Relic say, he underwrote the Drumavil debts from the beginning, financed close to two whole team changes, made his own money available to finance high cost players, and the catalogue goes one. The brakes have to be gently applied sometime but with still three weeks or so to go in the market we may not be done yet. The ball is in the football men,s court and we stand or fall by their signings. As it stands not easy times for us at the minute, but one game into the season is not time to be critical of anyone attached to the club.
Totally agree with what you're saying Vegas. The only flaw is the final paragraph. He's gonna need to spend a few mil just to get us up to mid-table. Football isn't like a normal business. There are no guaranteed returns on investments. You have to spend big just to stand still. Football clubs are moneypits. If you don't realise that, you're in the wrong business.
Football expert wants 10m for a player. Financial expert give them 10m Football expert buys Rodwell. A year later Football expert asks for 10m, Financial expert laughs and asks if its a joke.
Thats just the downside of being a billionaire football club owner. Glad I'm not in his shoes..... oh er, what am I saying? Feeling sorry for a billionaire
IM not having a pop at him at all. I think it's just a bit unrealistic to think he "cares" about the football club Safc, he ****ing loves the business , and he will love it even more when its buying him a few more flash cars etc. Its catch 22 for him at the minute, in the past he has invested and had dog **** results, so as a few have said he needs some proof that his investment is going to be profitable before he is willing to gamble more. FAir enough in my book
Not at all mate, i was just trying to illustrate a point. He'll love the club more when its making him more, which he must believe its capable of doing or he wouldnt have bought it. We run at a loss now don't we?
come to think of it . Why the **** has he bought a football club? Surely the worst investment ever. Even if he turns it around its only going to make a pittance comparatively to some of his past deals, and it's incredibly volatile.
No one buys a football club to make money. God knows why they do. Billionaires plaything? Bit of fun? Status symbol? His mates got one? I really have no idea mate. But buying a football club should be like buying a packet of ***s and come with a health warning.
