May have done before - apologies if if has. All the talk about what we need and who would should buy, set me thinking. If you could sign a player from Saints past (excluding the obvious MLT) who would it be, who would they replace, how much would you be prepared to pay and what would they bring to the team that is missing?
The more unusual the better. I would go for David Armstrong in place of Steven Davis for his off the ball closing down and goal scoring prowess from midfield. Would value him at 10million.

Franny Benali.......never the best from our past, but I defy anyone to find a player more proud to wear the shirt. Legend.

Here's an interesting option. A fit Ronnie Ekelund. Could be our David Silva.

Mind you, I wouldn't be unhappy with Bale (or Channon, or Keegan).

Kevin Keegan or Peter Shilton, two world class players in their prime ( and we had them in their prime!)....

If I had to go for one with our current need it would be Shilts.

What would Keegan and Shilts be worth in today's current hyped up market?

This thread just shows how bored we all are over the lack of transfer rumours that we trudge through our memories to think of who we would like from the past to sign up! <doh>

That's not a criticism of Island Saint but a comment on how desperate we have all got! :emoticon-0100-smile

But as there is bugger all to gossip about - I am torn between Steve Williams or Alan Ball (I remember Alan being in the twilight of his playing career but he had a great footballing brain and some wonderful skills - I was more than a little in awe of him).

I agree to your sentiment about lack of gossip etc. But looking at Lallana thread makes you wonder if you can get the right player for the wrong reasons or the wrong player for the right reasons. You could have gone for Kerry Dixon so that no other player on the pitch would be subjected to the boo boys in the crowd!

Well that's not the full story. He had a bad year and then rules the roost there too.

Jimmie Case is who we need now. £8 million given his age when he joined us.

interestingly the first to choose a player in a position which we keep saying we need to strengthen - other choices suggest what we really want is a real marquee signing.

A fully-fit, prime Michael Svensson eats most of the players in this division alive. Goddamn he was great.
