http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...f-no-one-meets-15m-asking-price-a2474001.html I don't get this, if we can afford to keep him, why not offer him the contract now? Heavily incentivised towards goals scored and put a min-clause in for top 6 clubs and a deadline of 'X amount of days before window closes.' before it expires. So we aren't left up Stamford Bridge without a paddle.
It's a waste of time, he won't sign it and will go for free next summer, unless he has a crap season/serious injury, if he's not sold by the end of this window or in January. Plus, he was on £28k a week (I think) last season. Les has said wants everybody on less than £20k, max, preferably closer to £10k. Will he sign a contract worse than his current one? Will we break the policy and have Hill and Mackie moaning again?
I think the 'Hill and Mackie moaning' aspect came about when we were offering stupid wages 60k-80k to players who were deemed not worthy or not putting the effort it. I don't think anybody in the QPR squad would begrudge Austin being on more than the rest considering his contribution. Compare that to the Taarabt debacle and THAT is where the problems arose. I for one hope he stays, whether he signs a new contract or not. The new £5 billion Premier League deal starts next season (Utterly crazy money!)....May explain why Bristol City are looking to pay £6 million for Gayle. Everybody wants a piece of that pie! And with Austin at the helm we have a greater chance of making the final supper. I cant wait for the FFP enquiry to run its course. We'll all know where we stand with regards to finances after that. THe sooner that's sorted, the sooner we can put the feelers out for potential new signing, or worst case - loans.
No harm in offering him a contract is there? Obviously it's unlikely he'd accept but if he really is intent on staying in the South and it's only Northern clubs interested, you never know.
There are still three weeks to go in the window, plenty of time for a couple of PL teams to lose games and panic. Charlie will be gone, the only uncertainty is where...
I often take what I read from news websites with a pinch of salt, but I read a few days back that we are willing to drop our £15 million asking price to around £13 million if it's a cash up front deal. This may not be far off the mark and shows we are trying to stay within spending guidelines and needing to sell to get more transfer targets. Chaz wants to stay in the Prem and who could blame him tbh, his heart will not be in roughing it in the Championship anymore so he will move on in this or the next window imo.
If we don't get the right offer then there is a win win situation where we offer him a new contract with a good pay rise, goal scoring and promotion bonuses, in the contract have a clause that if we don't get promoted this season he can go for say £7m and if we go up then he stays on the contract with us, good deal for us and good deal for him!
Spot on. Agree totally. Like asking for discount when making a purchase - might not get it - definitely won't if you don't ask. Nothing to lose offering him a new contract.
From West London Sport "" Speculation continues over Austin with Newcastle still reported to be keen 12/08/2015 A round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving QPR . Speculation continues over the future of Charlie Austin, with the north-east media continuing to insist that Newcastle are pursuing a deal to sign the QPR striker. The likes of Tottenham, who have shown no interest, have also been linked with Austin, as have West Ham and Everton. Only Leicester, who had an offer rejected, have so far made contact with Rangers over the 26-year-old. But the Northern Echo say Austin has been Newcastle’s top transfer target and that the Magpies have made ‘a succession of inquires’ without being able to agree a fee. It comes after QPR director of football Les Ferdinand yesterday reiterated to the Evening Standard that the club want £15m for Austin, only Leicester have made an approach, and that Rangers plan to make him another contract offer if he does not leave during this transfer window. """
I think its a smart move by our board. If we dont get the £15m then we are not selling and he must surely worry about playing out the season without a contract, especially as he has failed medicals in the past. Also sends a message to there clubs we are not in the distressed selling mode.
