This is turning into a mental season ... Bristol City have just had a £6m initial bid accepted by Crystal Palace for Dwight Gayle ... this is just crazy, and clubs like Bristol must be flirting with FFP rules So many Championship clubs have had a good go in the transfer market, and it underlines how desperate clubs are now to get into the Prem for the huge pay bump coming from next season ... Leeds are looking good based on the Burnley test, but how tough is a promotion challenge going to be? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
the Wallies are going crazy too, they're breaking the bank to buy a bricklayer from the Dog & Duck for 150 quid
Dwight Gayle will be a very good signing for Bristol City - will score 20+ and only get better !! Perspective - In his 29 Championship starts to date, he has scored 13 goals with 6 assists in a Posh side that got relegated!! If he carries that on, Bristol City will be right up there and this signing will have been well worth it. He is also only on half of Chris Wood's wages so the total deal will be far less than what you are paying for someone who has only scored 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 29 Championshiop starts
Not surprising that they are flirting with the rules, when QPR appear to have escaped a massive fine (according to the rules in place at the time) whilst other clubs have been sanctioned
Normally at least one of the sides that come up from League 1 has a good first season in the Championship, as it has taken Bristol City a good few years to build a squad to get them back up and the fact that they pissed League 1 last season means the 'gamble' of splashing out on a few big signings to strengthen a bid to go up again. Add to the fact that they own their ground and have just built a new stand, things are looking good for their future.
Fair point Stu but there's a huge difference between league 1 and the Championship, Norwich & Saints going back to back promotions was against the grain.
Millwall and Leeds did well first season back from League 1, Wolves missed out on goal difference last season, before Norwich and Southampton Leicester did well, so not against the grain Steve.
We are on a rebuild Eire, when we come back we'll be challenging rather than battling for survival, watch and learn, might be worth a try for Leeds to get that 'feelgood factor' back.
Fair enough Steve, but i was stating teams that do well when coming back, in hindsight had Millwall,Leeds and Wolves splashed the cash they could had done a lot better, maybe Bristol City have done their homework and seen that clubs generally do well first season and taken the gamble, Gayle will score bundles of goals for them this season.
Long may he stay, he's doing a fine job. You'll have one of the best grounds and owner in the conference in two years .
