Based on the Chelsea game my opinion of Gomis has changed. he's a different striker to Bony. I like the way he hangs on the last man which will mean he will be caught offside more often but he gives the defenders plenty to think about. A bit of improvement in his touch and decision making (e.g. not shooting on his first chance) and I think he'll easily get double figures. As for Ayew, for a smallish guy he's so strong. Held the ball up well and is going to be a great asset to us. Looks like he's bought into the whole team ethos and likes to put in a shift. happy days.
Actually Swan, I do remember now you reminded me as I used to read your board often and remember the debates about Bony looking useless and some suggesting you made a mistake signing him, but I also remember them same fans tended to have a real dislike for Michael Laudrup.
We always have players up front who look useless Gomis Bony Scotland All derided at some point during their stay with us, in particular Scotland as he was scoring 25 a season for us, and people were still calling him lazy. If he stayed with us we would have gone up 2 years earlier than we did imo
Jager I just watched the extended highlights of your game as I didn't get to see all of them previous but even more so impressed with Gomis and his movement, the way he peels off defenders and creates space, similar to Defoe in that he would always be looking for the ball played through. Also he is quite clever in the way he thinks ahead when a defender may be blocking his path to goal and he should have had 2 goals but Chelsea couldn't handle him at all. He is strong, fast, great leap, confident and clearly settled. Hopefully I haven't jinxed him! but unless your team struggles to create chances then I can't see how he will have anything other then an impressive season.
Well I thought he was quite quick with his turns but yes he isn't fast as in sprinting but in terms of movement/turns and with the ball, he is quick and certainty no Carlton Cole! But I look forward to seeing how he does this season and he is in my fantasy football as I try win my place back as number 1 spurs fan worldwide!
Thing is none of our guys up front have been fast, but as long as they score I don't care. Here are some others from the past Kuqi Dobbie Trundle
He's not fast per se, but he's explosive, makes decent runs and knows how to head the ball. I'm astonished that some fans still don't rate him. Tell me what striker played better the weekend? Benteke, Lukaku, Costa, Rooney?
The panther as he is known by his team mates was voted MOM in many of the tabloids on Sunday and Monday. I think he has come on in leaps and bounds and is actually enjoying his time with us..........I could not see that much wrong with every player who took the field tbh as they all put in a shift against the champions on their own pitch..........Shelvey had his best game and my personal MOM...
Downtime Guys, can you edit the thread title and change it to "season predictions & analysis of Gomis"
Its a Lion Dai, not a Panther. An acknowledgement of his Senegal ancestry. The Senegal Football team is know as Lions of Teranga
Carlton Cole, when his confidence was up, ran defences ragged, but like Gomis, isn't a natural goalscorer
My bad. you meant it as a compliment. Not that I rated Cole, but Gomis consistently reaches double figures so he isn't doing that bad for someone viewed as not a natural goal scorer but I'm expecting him to be overly criticised this season for any easy chances he fails to take and I hope he matches Bonys league total of last season, just to shut a few fans up!
Coles biggest problem was self-belief, when he played under Zola he had some, but if he didn't score for a few games it would really show in his execution, he would try too hard. As to Gomis, if he managed to get half the chances he creates for himself on target I don't think he would be playing for you, he'd be in the upper echelons of the CL teams. He'll improve, but not that much I don't think, it's more a psychological thing than a skill thing, that rush of blood when the goal is in sight, a bit too much power in the shot and the target gets missed by a few inches. I think he'll score between 14-18 goals, but I think it's his movement will create space and chances for others to exploit that will be the thing he will be appreciated for. The problem you'll have is keeping hold of him if he has a good season, I think he'll be off as quickly as you can say 'signing on fee'.
