Koeman is trying to convince him that he is a striker....rather the way Wenger worked on Henry.

Thought Pelle was good today, and Davis superb. We weren't at our best, but with Mane, Long, Rodriguez, and Pelle up top, we will get chances. Good point though.

Indeed Fran. Great strikers are not surprised at their own ability and I bet that's what Ron is working on. He could have had a bag full of goals today with a smidgeon more composure. I think the boy's going to have a hell of a season.

Well 2 wins and a draw from 3 including 7 goals scored! Koeman step aside!

If he can pop these chances in regularly, he's the next Thierry Henry.

Same; after a rough start to life in the PL, he certainly didn't lack for composure in front of goal (or 15 yards to the side of goal off his left foot) last year. I'm expecting him to be our best player this year.

Well played today. Season openers are always a bit of a step into the unknown with players getting used to each other but thought both teams contributed to a very enjoyable game today. I'd have taken a point before the game so happy with one now. It's always disappointing not to hold on once you've led, but I reckon that was a very tough opener from us and a step up from anything we played last season.

On a side note - well done on a very balanced match thread. Seems like your board has a lot of knowledgable contributors compared to the usual blinkered stuff on most matchday threads. Good luck for the season <ok>

Tell us where your heart was when Mane tricked his way through in the 94th minute? :)

Honestly, after the seasons we've endured, this was actually a fairly relaxed game to watch. Losing to you today would not have been the end of the world. I was expecting him to score and was comfortably numb in preparation. We're behind in preparation as Steve McClaren seems to have used pre-season to look at everyone in the squad as opposed to getting players used to playing together - probably the right move in the long term.
