A bet thousands of people refered to Okazaki as a Jap today. Not meaning anything racist or offensive by it.
Probably says "Yo Chap walk on" and the video evidence doesnt prove the sun correct so they are sensationalising the story and not giving the facts
Typical of the Sun. It will stoop to any depth to get a story! still not learnt anything from Hillsborough.
Got to be a bit suspicious if they have footage and won't show it, also why wait until just after our first win of the season? They presumably wanted to wait until after he was paired up with our new Japanese striker as well.
It's the sun so never any truth in what they write and I lost interest when it said 45k a week as I don't believe that for a second
Absolutely, we call Americans " Yanks " The Aussie's call us " Poms " Yanks... Short for Yankees , Jap.... Short for Japanese. Political correctness gone mad !
If that's the case, anyone who calls me a "Brit" will result in me running down into the Suns office crying racism. More white bashing noncence
Why can people still refer to people as `Brits´, ´Tommies` & `whites´ yet they can´t say any thing these days.
In Japan the word is popularly known, used and referenced frequently on the Internet.[12][not in citation given]
Don't think we need any lessons from The Sun regarding standards , ta very much when the only standards they clearly have are double standards, how often have they used the headline " sour krauts " or referred to Argetinians as Argies especially during and since the Falklands war ! Not to mention it's old Sunday rag being involved heavily in phone tapping with half it's senior editorial staff banged up because of it !
It obviously isnt racist when they use it http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/73932/Ahoy-its-Jap-Sparrow.html
Out of interest, let's say hypothetically he did say it in the way the newspaper implies, what would your stance be? Most on here were in favour of booting out the young players with the prossie so would this situation be viewed differently?
Fair point although some shortenings have taken on a pejorative meaning depending on the intent behind them. Paki for Pakistani, Jew for Jewish, Jap for Japanese etc can and are used in derogative fashions, again all depending on who and why they're using it. You may say "Brit" is fine and it normally is but go to certain parts of Northern Ireland and you'd soon find that its an intended insult and not just a playful shortening of a word. Having said all that, I do agree with your PC gone mad premise. Perhaps Vardy was just acting the kunt as opposed to a racist.
think this is different to the Thai incident, unless Top was running a good will trip to the casino. I wouldn't have seen the word jap as racist you tend to link the term Jap favorably with with the Japanese nations products. unlike the term paki with we tend to use as a derogatory phrase. As a culture we tend to have shortened names for most other countries or regions in the world. i am now confused as to what is acceptable and what isnt. Some stem from admiration and some from contempt. if it where a scotch man would jock have been acceptable, as opposed to sweaty sock. the are always going to be time in life when you use a term to single out an individual you do not know, fatty , ginge, short arse, old man, son, etc etc etc...
I think there are a couple of factors such as them using the hooker and also that they were on a club trip and were representing the team. Also as mentioned, it is a genuine shortened version used and not derogatory to the same level as the term used in Thailand. However, I will admit that as a fan, if a player is proved to have been at the centre of a incident (an article in the sun is not proof) then we're more likely to be lenient on a player who is worth his salt. It should be the same standards yes and there's no excuse for any player to cause trouble but it's natural that a player who is worth it gets forgiven easier. As far as the club is concerned, those young players were less than expendable
