I (like many) have been of the opinion that all we needed was a creative CM and a striker and we shouldn't be worrying about relegation this season. But after today's display, I can't help but feel we need another CB also. JOS and are rapidly moving to "past it" status and hould be bit part players as best, however on today's display Kaboul is an absolute liability. Hope fully after a bit of gametime he'll be better but can we afford to wait? I'd feel alot more comfortable if we brought someone else in (and not another bargain basement buy!)
I don't think so. Our midfield offered no protection to th back four today. I would be more worried about the full backs to be honest. I thought PVA was very poor today. For me Cattermole, Rodwell and Larsson we very worryingly poor today. It doesn't come as a huge surprise though. Until this area of the pitch is addressed we will continue to struggle.
No we need ball retention in midfield. The high pace combined with everything going out coming straight back at them meant they couldn't cope, then the fear set in, we all know what that entails. The Midfield and fullbacks simply didn't protect the back two. PVA was shocking, staying up pitch in the hope we regain possession and getting caught out time after time after time. Rodwell strolled around like he didn't give a ****, Catts didn't look interested, all Larrson's venom was channeled at the Reff, like he always does when the chips are down. Our CBs were hung out to dry today by everything around them, no wonder they imploded
Topper reply Funk, I will watch tonight with great interest, although I am not a great fan of Kaboul, he is by no means a bad CD and we know what PVA can bring to the team, so it is a case of sorting out the midfield three imo I also think we are not giving Leicester their due, they are a bit like Villa on their day they are very good, both teams play a high speed game and get forward at pace, this has more times than not caught us out. Things can and will get better but not overnight, its not our way.
PVA played like a lazy winger constantly expecting his full back to bail him out, only to realise he was the lazy **** not tracking back. Shockingly bad. Our fullbacks played like wing backs with three centre backs. Carnage.
Leicester were rank average. We made them look good. They'll get turned over by anyone half decent. We were poor and scored two against them. Leaky bucket I reckon....
One more midfielder for me, with attacking capabilities, M'Vila is the other one needed so sooner he's fit the better. Leicester made it an open game themselves, they were wide open at the back most of the game. Against better opponents who defend and attack better they could have easily been torn to pieces today. They reminded me of Blackpool's season. High tempo entertaining and very attacking but completely exposed and vulnerable at the back. We scored two away for christ sake. It should have been an end to end game, it's our own misgivings which meant it wasn't. Defo the Midfield at fault so we couldn't even compete.
Things only get better with a change of manager and/or when theres a handful of games to go. Only then do the players seem to give a ****. We seem to have a squad who seem to sit back and hope for something to happen rather than make something ****ing happen. Its not until a threat of a reduction in wages as a result of relegation being probability that they start to pull their fingers out. Most of our players know that they will not get payed more or play at a higher level than they do at Sunderland. They have no oomph to try and better themselves. Been like that for a few seasons now.
PVA had an absolute howler today. He doesn't do enough going forward to justify the liability he is at the back. Jones wasn't a lot better either. Rodwell offers little/nothing in cm, I hope Dick considers him as an option at some point this season beside Kaboul.
We were ****e in defence today, but I'm not sure throwing money at signing another centre half is the answer to be honest as a team we defended poorly, they had very little help from midfield, I think they're probably better than they showed today and we've got O'Shea who can come into that defence and might improve it.
A new pairing in the heart of the defence is always risky, two relative rookies was suicidal and we paid the price.
We played poorly, but it is too soon to panic, this Leicester team have won 7 of their last 9 premiership games and came out looking like they had not noticed the close season break we on the other hand looked very rusty from back to front, this was the main difference between the two sides.
