Irony Clearly lost on you No doubt you think its a gcse subject or something 'women' do whilst watching Corrie In other news, some people might be a little disappointed we lost at Charlton but in Clappy Valley somewhere off the Fulham Park Road you're clearly content with a 2 nil defeat and have cracked open a bottle of 2017 Merlot to go with a takeaway from that hip Yemeni Armenian restaurant you read about in the Guardian Give me strength and save me from the eternal optimists. Its the meek that will inherit the earth not the gloaters
Give over, pathetic reply. It's the first game ffs. Now jog on and get that noose ready, you drama queen!
Clearly you are no rangers fan. Its the eternal imminent failure that defines us. We have no place for smug optimism here I shall now for the first time utilise the Ignore button as your grating whining taking the opposing view for the sake of it has become far too wanton You are the smuggest weakest link Goodbye
Not an easy place to go first game of the season, we have to start giving other teams more credit. We ain't that good...yet! Yeovil and Cardiff won't be easy either. Gonna take a few games yet especially after another disastrous pre-season.
Not a rangers fan? How very dare you. Was probably a rangers fan before you were a twitch in your old man's ball sack sonny!! Bye then, as if I care!!! Baaaaaaa.
I agree with some of the Diakite comments. He is a gamble, but we ain't going to win anything by being nice. This is a more physical league than the prem, would love to see Diakite putting the wind up some players. Big lad like that, would definitely upset opposite numbers.....forces mistakes. Another option at least.
We've gone from throwing ridiculous money at has-beens and mercenaries to shopping from the bargain bucket I'm not sure it's going to get a lot better.
Agree. I checked the odds and saw that Charlton were amongst the favourites for relegation and hoped we might put in a good show with a win. Clearly very disappointing but nothing to get too hot under the collar about just yet. Sounds as though Charlie on his way from the reports of those who were there. Still wish him good luck and hope we can utilise the revenue wisely.
As I keep saying, this is the beauty of the Championship. No one team has a right to beat another...and you know it if only you'd take those blinkers off. Lighten up mate!
Good God why such a meltdown on here? It's one game! Remember when Bolton beat us 4-0 on the opening day? Remember who stayed up and who went down that season? Calm down guys.
The disappointing thing for me today, and this is a worry that is going to stick with us for the whole season, is Ramsey's inability to "manage" the game. Often in games, some things are going well and you're playing well but you cannot score for whatever reason. So naturally, something has to change. This happened today where for the first 20 minutes we looked sharp, we passed the ball well and got into good positions but couldn't score. Charlton, quickly caught onto this so when we had the ball, they got men behind it so that we couldn't force a way through. This, is where a manager should have installed in the team a slightly different way of playing. A different final ball. We do not have this. Charlie Austin should not have played today at all. A player who wants a move does not deserve to use our first game of the season to get himself match fit. Entirely selfish of Ramsey to do that. Matt Phillips isn't worth £10 let alone £10mil based on his performance today, both goals down his side of the pitch and he was nowhere near either of them. This point is particularly key considering their left back scored inside our box!!! He also missed a glorious chance at 0-0 45 seconds into the second half, where he decided to kick it at the keeper, instead of either side of him from 12 yards. Rob Green, for all you lovers of him, was awful. At fault for the first goal, by getting a full hand on a shot at his near post only to let it in. The second goal, he has a good 20 minutes to get across and dive. I like the look of Chery and Luongo, both can keep the ball moving and fluid BUT we do need more movement to create an option for a final ball. Jamie Mackie was our best player on the part today by a country mile; never stopped running and actually looked like he wanted to score. Paul Konchesky and James Perch will both be good signings, but it is clear neither of them are currently up to match speed. All in all, we need to sign a quick winger who can be direct and make runs off the ball. A centre forward who can play a lone striker and hold the ball up. A keeper to be number 1, not an understudy. And obviously another centre back, although Hill and Onuoha did play well today. Charlton will grow and take points off teams as the season goes on, but they were there for the taking today.
I was there Swords and this was definitely the case Don't get me wrong - sometimes you need to in order to retain possession, but the forward pass should be the preferred option Let's all calm down though - one game doesn't define a season, least of all the first game with such a changed team
