After just one season back in the Championship, the Canaries regained their top flight status with a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Play-Off final at Wembley Stadium back in May and will be keen to get off to a flying start against Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace side. One notable absentee from the Canaries match day squad will be new signing Youssouf Mulumbu who is out for several weeks after fracturing a metatarsal in City's 2-1 pre-season friendly win against Brentford last weekend. please log in to view this image New Canaries signing Yousseff Mulumbu will miss tomorrow's opener Martin Olsson is also set to miss out for City after undergoing shoulder surgery in the close season, however new boys Robbie Brady and Andre Wisdom are available for selection. Alex Neil is keeping his cards close to his chest but has revealed that he already has a good idea of his starting eleven. Crystal Palace have been busy in the transfer market this summer and have been spending heavily recruiting amongst others, Yohan Cabaye from Paris St Germain (£13.0M), Connor Wickham from Sunderland (£9.0M) and Jordon Mutch and Alex McCarthy both from Queen's Park Rangers for £5.8M and £3.5M respectively. please log in to view this image Record signing Yohan Cabaye is set to make his Premier League debut for the Eagles on Saturday Make no mistake, although Crystal Palace are not one of the Premier League's traditional high flyers, this will be an extremely tough test for the Canaries and will no doubt prove to be a good barometer for their season ahead. The biggest winning margin in the Canaries favour was a 5-0 victory at Selhurst Park on 18th April 1951 in Third Division (South) while the Eagles best win, who were then know as the 'Glaziers', was on 30th October 1926 also at Selhurst Park in the same competition when they thrashed City by seven goals to one. Co-incidentally the two sides were drawn together for the first round proper of the FA Cup the very next month, where after a 0-0 stalemate in the Capital the Canaries progressed through to the 2nd round when they ran out 1-0 winners at the Nest. The last time City and Palace met on the opening day of the season was on 14th August 2004 at Carrow Road in the Premier League when the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Andy Johnson secured a share of the spoils for the visitors after Darren Huckerby had put the Canaries ahead. Both sides were relegated at the end of that season after just one year in the top flight. Norwich have won only one of the last six meetings, drawing twice and losing three times. Crystal Palace were founded in 1905 at the site of the famous cast iron and plate glass Crystal Palace Exhibition building by the owners of the FA Cup Final stadium, who wanted their own team to play at the historic venue. Thus they were known as the 'Glaziers' until 1973 when the then manager Malcolm Allison instigated a re-branding, changing their traditional claret and blue strip to red and blue vertical stripes and their nickname to the 'Eagles'. ncfc team line up please log in to view this image Listen to full match commentary on BBC Radio Norfolk 95.1 & 104.4FM, 855Mhz and DAB Digital Radio with Chris Goreham please log in to view this image and guest match summariser Daryl Sutch please log in to view this image ..... and don't forget to tune into 'Canary Call' post match ! Great stuff KIO, thanks for your hard work! I hope your mojo is still working! Corals are offering 10-1 on a City win! Seems generous to me!
Excellent work KIO as per! Looking forward to breaking the opening day hoodoo...is it 12 years since a win? I feel AN might be the man to break this record.
I always look forward to the new season but once it is here I feel all nervous, really hope for a good result tomorrow.
The Farmhouse near Eaton Park is advertising that they are screening ALL NCFC games, so I'm sure there will be other pubs showing it.
It is first game syndrome for me and I would be satisfied with something on the board tonight. Don't underestimate Palace, they look solid mid-table under Pardew.
Afternoon lads, pre-match nerves now kicking in We'll do well do get a point today IMO and Cabaye WILL score
I reckon, this season, we will win some games we were expected to lose , and lose some we were expected to win, but we will never pile up the defence for damage limitation! Those dark days are behind us!
We will need to beat teams like Watford Bournemouth, Stoke, Sunderland ,West Brom ,Leicester and Palace at home the other 13 are even harder games.
I would suggest Nathan that Palace are the hardest team on your list and I would be more confident against Villa, Newcastle or Swansea who you haven't mentioned.
