God bless you for posting the Lightning Hopkins recording. Pure genius. Those early blues singers had to learn to make enough sound from a single guitar to fill a juke joint and to get everyone jumping.
The medieval sound and the lyrics imo. I'll have you know, I met a girl a few months ago, and she seems to like me!
I have been burgled three times and the effect is so devastating (even after 15 years) that I would hang the bastards. It is not just the theft of irreplaceable family heirlooms but the sense of invasion and violation. I am still angry about it and it has convinced me that if I feel that bad after being burgled what must it be like for a rape victim?
I was talking about this track yesterday (the whole album is a corker, but for me this track is special). Please have a listen Pomps! It's beauty in simplicity.
I was lucky enough to be able to catch 2 burglars downstairs at 2 in the morning a few years ago - I went slightly over the top in teaching a lesson about private property but it certainly sent out a message to that particular pair of scumbags, and I hope they told their friends. It was in a pub I was running at the time so I probably didn't feel quite the same sense of outrage as if it had been a private house, but my partner at the time was devastated just by the thought of random strangers being downstairs when she was asleep. She never really got over it, and the relationship suffered as a result. The police were kind enough to contact me though when the burglars went to court, and they were treated to the sight of me grinning at them as they were led away to custodial sentences
Luke Shaw showing he's got a good heart, again. MUFC fan tweeted a photo of his new shirt, with 'SHAW 3' - Shaw then moved to #23 in the squad numbers. Without the fan even contacting or tweeting him, Luke followed the fan and sent a private message asking his address and saying he'll replace the shirt for the United fan, free of charge.
I like that a lot. Builds and builds but keeps a dreamlike quality. The sort of thing I'd like to listen to dozing in the garden on a hot summer's day. Lovely.
The refrain on the clarinet just gets me in the chest every time. The dreamlike thing is why I thought Pomps might like it - it's a gentle step away from Disney!
Really? 1p might be insulting to a homeless person, but I don't think voluntarily replacing a £50 shirt with £12 printing is insulting. Either way, if someone helps someone they shouldn't be frowned upon.
It is pretty good, I agree about the dreamlike quality. Talking of dreamlike qualities, I always like this song from The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack, it also has that dreamlike quality: [video]
One of my favourite films, with a great soundtrack by Trevor Jones (who wrote that) with other bits written by Randy Edelman. That piece is essentially a slow Celtic air. The difference between that piece and the Bonobo track though, is that The Glade was written as accompaniment to a scene in a movie, and not a stand-alone piece of art. Black Sands, on the other hand, needs no visual accompaniment, as the music, together with your own imagination, supplies the visuals. Do you see what I'm getting at, or am I being over-picky?
