The midfielder, 26, made a major impact following his move to Loftus Road from Nancy in 2012 but subsequently fell out of favour and has not made a league appearance for Rangers for more than two years. Diakite, who had a brief loan spell at Watford the season before last, was loaned to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad last term. Now back in London, and having featured for QPR during pre-season, he is determined to see out the remaining year of his contract and wants head coach Ramsey to give him an opportunity. “I have one more year on my contract with QPR and I want to stay until the end of my contract,” Diakite said. please log in to view this image Head coach Ramsey has plenty of midfield options “I’m ready to play, I just want somebody to give me a chance. I want to stay here and I hope the manager is going to give me a chance. “I’m very happy to be back with QPR and I’m enjoying it. I like the atmosphere in the team, everybody wants to work hard. “For me the last two years have been difficult but now I’ve come back I’m very happy.” Diakite has told Ramsey he believes he could be a useful option at right-back – a position the Mali international played in during the early part of his career. His chances of re-establishing himself as a midfielder at Rangers look slim, especially given the recent signings of Tjaronn Chery, Massimo Luongo, Ben Gladwin and the versatile James Perch. But Diakite is convinced he would impress in the Championship playing in his preferred role. “I used to play at right-back and I like that position – I think I can play very well in that position,” he explained. “But for me now, midfield is my best position. I can help the team and do many things in that position. “In pre-season I’ve played at full-back and on the left wing – wherever the manager wants me to play I will play. I’m here to play for the team. “I want to play in my position, but if the manager puts me at right-back or whatever then I’m going to play, no problem. I just want to stay and play for the team. “I played in the Championship for Watford and the division is very physical. I think I can play well and do many things well in the Championship. “If I leave QPR it’s not because of me. I want to stay.”
Really hoping along with Ale this lad has a great season, fingers crossed all is well with his head and he's calmed down a bit, will never forget that goal against Arsenal, the talent is there hopefully we will get a chance to see it again.
I'd love to see him play back in form again, and a bit more composed. He was at least a very good player.
If his head's in the right place now, he could scythe through defences in the Championship from midfield.
There is a very good player in there. As long as he has got his problems sorted, if ever there was any, he will be class for us.
Don't hold your breath. The guy flew over the Cuckoo's nest a long time ago. Expect the men in white coats to be calling before the season is out
At full back I think we'd need fingers and toes to count the penalties he'd give away, let alone the red cards. He would be very useful in a fluid midfield if Ramsey wants to play Dutch style however.
If he can remain focused and stop jumping in to challenges all the time, I believe we have a very good footballer. Something's off about him for me however, can't explain it, it's almost like I don't trust him and expect him to fail. Really hope I'm wrong
Soft spot for Diakite. Hopefully will get a run out and given the chance to show what he is all about....Finally. Seems to be a confidence player to me.
Coming from a Catholic country you do not go much along the redemption pathway ..do you Swordsy Everyone is allowed a second chance.. He will get an opportunity to show what he is capable of
I like the guy, but i'm naturally cynical when statements like these are released by players whose contracts are expiring. I'm sure he'd love to stay at QPR- he must've been paid very well over the last few years, and he'll never get as lucrative a contract again. What has he contributed though? Not enough to make a contract renewal good business for QPR (unless he has an absolute blinder this season).
You obviously don't remember the Club releasing the statement regarding the man's mental health (which was before Redknapp was at the Club by the way). Saint Augustine gives clear instruction on the issue of mental health: "Crazy people say and do many incongruous things, things for the most part alien to their intentions and their characters, certainly contrary to their good intentions and characters; and when we think about their words and actions, or see them with our eyes, we can scarcely — or possibly we cannot at all — restrain our tears, if we consider their situation as it deserves to be considered." I recently went on a pilgrimage to Ramsgate in an effort to reconcile myself with the death of my rightful Sovereign and heir to the throne, Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart 18th Duchess of Alba. Lying prostrate upon the cobbled stones I'm not ashamed to admit I wept openly. Being, I suspect, a flighty girl who ran with the Teddy Boys in the days of yore, I don't expect much compassion for my spiritual predicament from you. Nevertheless, please afford me some reverence as someone who's had a multitude of moral and spiritual hurdles to overcome for the sake of the wider communion. I beg of you
I like it when you go all Opus Dei. Tighten up that cilice, purity through mortification. On an unrelated point Christopher Hitchens' mate Robert Conquest died today, at a ripe old age. Former member of the Communist Party, he did more to expose the genocide and terror of Stalin in the west than anyone else. Also wrote limericks (and proper poems).
Cayetana was obviously one hell of a woman, and to hook a 64 year old toy boy 24 years her junior, she may have run with Teddy Boys, Swordsy but I am far too young and far too innocent to do that sort of thing.. I was going to ask why Ramsgate, but now I understand...it was the site of St Augustines first footfall in England, and home to one of the worlds's troubled souls Van Gogh for many years. You are certainly are an outstanding intellect and polymath Swordsy, it is a shame you hide it under a bushel so well.
