Konchesky is comfortably good enough. Played 26 league games last season. Not every signing can be a 26-year-old with experience who is proven in this league and will play for minimum wage.
I'm away on my hols so this was a bit of a surprise signing for me. Personally I think it's five years too late. Here's what Clive thinks ... Konchesky reflects harsher side of QPR’s changing times – signing Tuesday, 4th Aug 2015 22:29 by Clive Whittingham QPR have signed veteran defender Paul Konchesky on loan from Leicester City for the season to cover for an injury crisis at left back. Facts Paul Konchesky made his professional debut in 1997 as a 16-year-old for Charlton Atheltic, and will return to The Valley on Saturday to make his first start in a QPR shirt. He was the club’s youngest ever player at that time, but the record has since been broken by Johnjo Shelvey. The 34-year-old left back was most recently with Leicester with whom he made 155 appearances and scored five goals after joining for an undisclosed fee from Liverpool in July 2011. He won the Championship title with the Foxes in 2014, and made 29 appearances in the top flight last season – picking up two red cards in the process – but has been told this summer by new manager Claudio Ranieri to look for another club. He enjoyed a good career through his 20s. West Ham bought him from Charlton for £1.5m and he played in an FA Cup Final for Alan Pardew’s side before moving to Fulham for £2m. While there, under Roy Hodgson, he played in the Europa League final against Atletico Madrid. Both matches ended in defeat – Konchesky scored in the FA Cup final but missed a penalty in the shoot-out after a 3-3 draw. I suspect that Pardew reckons that Gayle is worth the same as Charlie Austin. At least that's the negotiating stance. Read in to it what you want. His offer for Charlie is Gayle + £5 million. We will go back and say Gayle + £12 million. That way nobody will ever know the true figure of the undisclosed fee. Genius if you are correct in your
Normally I wouldn't be too thrilled with another ageing defender but we desperately need cover at left-back and think he'll have a better attitude than some other "experienced" players that have come in over the past few years. With Anton and OBZ is that all 3 who missed West Ham's penalties in he 2006 FA Cup Final we've signed? Lets just hope his Mum keeps herself off Facebook if he's ever dropped.
And I also think we a quality midfielder regarding distribution and clinical passes going forward short , faulin is made of Waterford crystal at best ..... He's good but for how long ...... Ramsey .... One more quality forward, creative midfielder and commanding centre back and we will be a force I rekon ..... I've put 50 nicker on us to finish top 2 and scum outside top 4 Lovely jubbly
Wouldn't be hard to be better than Rio was ........... and at a fraction of the price. Just hope he's not looking to write a book this season. Welcome to the club, 'Kon'
Konchesky is an uninspiring but pragmatic signing who may do OK for us in the light of our injury crisis. It seems he did turn out regularly for Leicester in the Premier League last season so he should pass muster in the Championship this year. Nevertheless, I'd much rather have followed the blueprint laid down with our other summer signings where I think we've done really well. We've brought in a number of bright young prospects (Luongo, Gladwin, Chery) or slightly more experienced recruits (JET, Polter) who have shown enough to be worth a punt that might just pay dividends. In that light, this loan appears something of a panic move but understandably so in the circumstances.
It is a loan, it is tide us over whilst Yun (????and Traore???) are injured, and to provide cover and competition. I think it is a neccessity at this stage. HOWEVER, I am worried that this (back up in both RB and LB) allows the plan to have Hill and Ned as our frontline CD, now that is worrying
Would be very happy if we could work out deals for Ream and Gayle. If we could get 10m plus Gayle I think that would be pretty good business. We don't want to lose Austin on deadline day and bring in a panic pay or be left with no replacement.
Robinson is the long term left back. Assuming his injury doesn't permanently hinder him he's exactly what we are looking for. Ream is bang average from what I've seen of him but would provide depth. Onuoha and Perch would be my preference there but it would allow Perch to play full-back and would justify letting Harriman go more as it still looks a bizarre decision. Would love us to sign Gayle as part of a swap or independently. I'd value him at £6m personally. Pretty young, good goalscoring record. Would expect him to go to a promoted side though. Bournemouth were publicly interested.
Yeah possibly and he may be keen to stay in London. Gradel is more of a winger or at least he used to be. Gayle is similar to Austin in that he's risen up quickly from a low league and always gets goals whatever the new challenge. For me he's a Prem player and will get better so I'd be delighted. Not sure how Palace plan on accommodating all these strikers but I think they're in for a great season with or without Austin.
Gayle is not a £10 million player -. Would be happy for him to come to us on loan. Ream - don't know anything about him...but he is a defender so could be useful!
