Southampton to open contract talks with Victor Wanyama.

    Southampton are ready to open contract talks with midfielder Victor Wanyama.

    The Kenya international has two years remaining on his current deal but Southampton want to protect their asset, a player who cost them £12.5million.

    They were forced to strike a deal with Liverpool for Nathaniel Clyne after allowing his contract to run towards its final 12 months and don't want that to happen with Wanyama. The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in Southampton's last two Premier League campaigns helping protect one of the best defensive records in the division.

    Me: Hi Vic, I've had a really great new contract offer from Saints for a new deal.

    Vic: Great, how much more will I get?

    Me: I don't know

    Vic: didn't you read it?

    Me: Yes

    Vic: Well, how much more do I get?

    Me: I don't know

    Vic: I thought you said you read it?

    Me: I did, it says you stay at Saint for another 5 years and you're going to love it. Sign here. Leave the rest to me.

    Us trying to get Wanyama to sign a new contract is pretty obvious. Even if this journo is jumping the gun, I bet talks will be happening soonish.

    Good... I know it's only the mail but I said earlier in the Summer that this should be right near the top of our to-do
    list. I'm not that confident of it happening though with his agent and I'm sure this time next year some big clubs will be looking at him with only a year left but fingers crossed n let's hope we are trying to get this done soon!

    This is the sort of deal that really should be conducted away from the media, and only announced when it's done-if that's possible these days. First sign that this agent leaks a thing to the press and it's time to get all gangster/Cortese on his ass.
