QPR striker Charlie Austin and midfielder Leroy Fer are likely to leave the club in the summer transfer window, according to boss Chris Ramsey.

The pair sat out QPR's pre-season friendly against Atalanta on Sunday.

Both have been heavily linked with moves away from Loftus Road following QPR's relegation to the Championship.

"People are very interested. We know it's a financial situation where the players, given the right offer, will probably go," he told BBC London 94.9.

However, Ramsey would like the club - who have five Championship fixtures and a League Cup tie before the transfer window closes on 1 September - to hold on to the pair for as long as possible, so they can play a part in their early-season fixtures.

"Selfishly, I hope nobody comes in for them," added Ramsey.

"Whoever's in the building and can help needs to be on hand. What is happening is that the players are training very hard to get fit for the beginning of the season and if they're fit they'll feature."

Austin, 24, signed a three-year deal when he joined QPR from Burnley in 2013 and scored 18 goals last season in the Premier League, earning a call-up to the England squad.

Holland midfielder Fer, 25, joined for £8m from Norwich at the start of last term, during which he scored six goals for the club.

Ramsey confirmed that any additions to his squad would depend on Fer and Austin leaving.

"I've probably got three-quarters of the squad I want but we do need some more players," he said.

"We need maybe three or four defenders but I imagine a few managers in the league are saying the same thing."

    Doesn't fill me with confidence!

There's a lot in this article that isn't stating the completely obvious.

it's great no one knows anything … let's take a deep breath it's fresh air
A new team and nothing to say until at least September
The transfer market is a complete mess IMO how can any team apart from the big boys build a team?

Does the fact Matty Phillips played mean he might stay then?

I'd be ecstatic if both (Phillips and Austin) stayed. Happy with just one to be honest.

Should be looking at the likes of Le Fondre, regardless of who stays/leaves.

ramsay sounds like he wants someone to bid for austin. Redknapp would have been slaughtered for talking to the press in such a manner.

I've said all along that out of our three good players, we'll hang onto Matty. The other two were always going to go

Put like that it was laughable that we hoped to survive in the PL with 3 good players. Especially when all 3 were injured/not picked for a chunk of the season and two were **** for the majority of it.

Or even more laughable is how we spent scores of millions and ended up with only three good players

Seems we haven't learnt our lesson & like the last few seasons are starting off with an incomplete squad & particularly the first team still require sorting.

It's one thing hoping to make 1-2 or signings or loans during August but we still need to bring in around 5-6 which is a pretty poor state to be in.

Ramsey has had a mountain to climb replacing almost an entire squad. He is in a no-win situation with fans during this window.

He would have been slaughtered if he had brought in players in July only to find better players being signed by others at the and of the window.

I can see all the comments now ... "We should have been in for (insert name)", "Why weren't we in for (insert name)?", "Couldn't we have waited instead of buying (insert names)?".

There will be opportunities when the transfer merry-go-round takes full effect in a week or two.

Of course it could go t!ts up leaving it late - but so could it have been buying early from what was available.

Newcastle Must Continue Spending The Big Money
Newcastle May Be Forced To Make Move For Striker
9:06 am, Tuesday, August 4th, 2015 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 23 Comments
If Newcastle’s plan is to bring in another striker and then get Papiss Cisse off the wage bill by selling him before September, then it’s unlikely to work to wait until the last minute in this transfer window to get Charlie Austin in from QPR for £2M or £3M less than the £15M the London club want for their top striker.
So the report today in the Express may even have some validity in it that Newcastle are lining up alternative strikers, with one of them being Uruguayan International Diego Rolan.
Rolan is younger than Austin and at 22 years old he could be a decent buy for Newcastle, and would come cheaper than Charlie, who turns 27 next month.
The Express is reporting the Bordeaux forward is Newcastle’s back-up option for Austin – so we suppose we are not going back in for 6ft 7ins Dutch striker Bas Dost of Wolfsburg.
QPR begin their season on Saturday at Charlton, so it could start to get dicey if Charlie Austin plays and gets injured, and it would seem like this week would be a very good time to sign Austin.
However, head coach Steve McClaren has said he doesn’t expect any new players in before we kick off the Premier League season at home to Southampton on Sunday.
Is this hold-up really worth the £2M or £3M we would save on Austin?
And if we are going to sell Cisse, then time is running out on that front too.
Money seems to be taking the priority again rather than the football side of things at Newcastle.

Chelsea Close In On Left Back; Charlie Austin Also Set To Join

Jose Mourinho has also apparently rekindled his interest in QPR’s Charlie Austin following the news from his medical team that Diego Costa will probably not be available for the start of the season. This would leave Loic Remy who seemed thoroughly out of sorts in Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal and a Radamel Falcao clearly wanting for pace and confidence. A proven Premier League scorer might be just what Chelsea need to mount a title defence.
The Metro reported that Chelsea were once in talks with Austin for a move which never materialised probably because of QPR’s asking price and Jose Mourinho’s trust for the players he has. Players who looked nothing like good enough in the Community Shield.
QPR are reportedly holding out for a fee around £20 million, a fee the Special One is not too keen on paying. With the season only a few days away we do not have to wait long to see which deals can be sealed before the first Gameweek.
