Sounds like more than being "linked" to me! They're suggesting he's undergoing a medical. Although I don't know anything about the guy beyond what was discussed previously, and he is a bit on the old side, I'd be pretty happy with this as the price sounds like it wouldn't be outrageous (c.£3.5-4m?) for a striker in their peak years and so it's a big risk, but he could really be class.
I think Mbokani and Tomlin are being confused here. Interesting to see comments from Alex Neil in the Pinkun suggesting two new faces still to come in. A striker is undoubtedly one, but the other will be interesting. Every position he's talked about seems to have been filled, so perhaps it might be a centre back, as many seem to crave?
Connor Wickham potentially moving to Crystal Palace. Would anyone have begrudged him coming here because of his past? I think he would have been a good addition to our strike force and offered something slightly different.
Sorry that was not clear from my post - I meant Mbokani, who is a CF, not Tomlin who is as you say a midfielder
I wouldn't begrudge his past, but I wouldn't want him, he hasn't exactly pulled up trees since his big money move Bah!
If (and it's still a big if) we ended up signing Mbokani or a striker with similar pedigree, I'd be a bit concerned about just how many centre-forwards we'd have in the squad. Possibly a nice problem to have, but possibly could lead to an 'over-competetive' feeling among the strikers: Mbokani (or other) Jerome Grabban RvW Hooper Lafferty I can imagine Jerome would be thoroughly miffed if a striker with a similar playing style to himself came in.
Jerome might be miffed, although having two strikers who play in a similar fashion would point to us predominately using a system which suits them. He'd likely be ahead of Grabban, rather than potentially behind him if Neil prefers that style of striker. Realistically all those strikers won't be Canaries come September 1st, I'd expect Lafferty to be moved on once he's recovered from injury. Much as I'd like RvW to stay and come good, unless there's a squad spot free I can't see him getting a place ahead of Hooper.
Is Jerome ahead of Grabban in the pecking order? AN was starting Grabban ahead of Jerome until his injury/suspension.
I agree, DH. The biggest threat to our survival would be a serious injury to Jerome. Mbokani would be competition though, not just cover. I'd be well pleased if this happens and I think Lafferty and/or RvW would move on to make room in the squad for both Kean and Mbokani.
I believe that was when Jerome was having trouble with his hamstring, danary. Similarly Grabban started on Saturday because Jerome had just come back from his sore foot injury.
