Faulin and Gladwin have had a number of pinpoint cross field passes chery hit post from free kick. Pushing high up really high up but defence looks really suspect. Need a commanding CD
Thanks Beth. I'm still more interested in the performance than the result, but are we still looking a bit weak up front (as well as at the back)?
Back from a hugely entertaining day out. We started well, pushing really high up and everytime the Italians got the ball Poulter and Chery were on them. Midfield pushed up high too, definately playing a pressing game. Faulin hit 2 cross field balls to Phillips, that were immaculate...Gladwin the same in second half. Phillips stuck to his wing and was a terror (would make a serious difference in the Championship if he stays) was seeming to form a relationship with Perch, who was understandably a bit shaky. Chery hit the post with a screamer, and was full of energy, and took players on...we had lots of people taking players on...that was excellent...but the defence (which started with Ned and Clint as CBs was shaky. Second half lots of subs, but the first part of second half had a pairing of No4 with Ned (Is this Goben?????) he looked like Doughty who came on later so it was not him...and that pairing looked solidish...Clint moved to left back. Later on No4 and Perch were tried in the centree, but they were not quite as strong (Furlong had come on to right back....Clint played the whole match. JET came on and practically scored a fairly lucky goal with his first strike. Diakite came on and was exactly like his old self, brilliant runs, lots of strength, losing the ball, wild tackles. Henry was solid...Blackwood had 15 minutes and will be a star in a year.. So.... can see future stars in Chery and Blackwood Faulin, Luono, Gladwin, JET, Phillips very good Perch I am sure will grow into it Poulter better than expected (but I was expecting very little) What is says on the box Henry, Clint, Ned, Diakite (although some of his runs were excellent) Kpekwa Furlong Doughty ...OK Hoillet did nothing when came on for Phillips Green had nothing to do but pick the ball from the net And the No4...on that performance...probably the best seen this preseason Have I forgotten any one
Thanks Beth. Good to hear that we p[layed reasonably well. Does anyone know what the position with Hall is? Is he on trial, looking to loan him or to purchase him? On to The Valley. COYR's!
On todays performance he is an out and out central defender...big and solid, not sure hhow speedy as he wasn't asked to be speedy today. The most solid time of the match was when he played with Ned with Clint left back, Perch right back. Later on he played with Perch, and understandably that was not as solid. Ned and Hall looked better than Ned and Clint O did I say in the second half we had a couple of really telling and excellent overlapping runs from our geriatric left back. He really had listened to Chris Ramseys game plan. He even caught offside running onto to goal Clint is one hell of a player ...I wish he was 25
Went today.. think while the squad is extremely thin we are only really a centre back and a fit left back short of a good first 11. Polter fits the system we played today well and is much more mobile then I expected. Gladwin, Luongo and Chery all look good signings. Chery's set pieces will be a massive plus. After the crap we've been dished up with the like's of Barton in the past Hall looked ****e, no where near the first team level we need. Blackwood looked a bit crap and lost it a couple of times in good spaces because he was trying to do too much. Maybe understandable with little match time to try and impress. Didn't notice Kpekwa, but take that as a good sign. Perch will be reliable. JET very useful at this level. Faurlin if we can keep him fit will be vital. Phillips if he stays will be significant. Is growing as a player as he gets older. With Caulker in their we'd have a strong case for the play-offs or better. Clear we now need to go and spend sort of money on a centre back that proves the Caulker deal to be as disastrous and counter-productive as I first thought. But our midfield 5 today had enough about it to make me look forward to this season a bit more
Thanks the same. Sounds like we still need a CB and al LB (on loan probably) plus a good replacement for Austin if he goes, for Philips too.
Ramsey said afterwards that Hall would not be ready for the first team but would be one for the future, still under consideration as a possible squad player. I think we still need a couple more, left back and centre back to be competitive at this level...
I stand to be corrected but I believe it was the away fans that did this. Apparently it's the norm for them to boo a player who fluffs an easy chance regardless whether it's one of their own or otherwise.
Did not hear anyone boo Polter at all. As said he was better than I think we were ked to believe. Funny enough when Booklet came on, as is name was announced I did notice how he looked to the crowd expecting a negative reaction it didn't come...he got a slightly subdued but positive response.
Just watching the Charity Shield highlights. I want to watch a QPR team that plays like Arsenal every week. Any chance? I'm prepared to give it a couple of years to get there.
