Well if the defensive mistakes weren't down to CB's then why did we keep changing the CB pairing and rarely change the player at LB or RB.
I agree, If Martin cost us so many games with bad defending then highlighting one mistake should be easy eg Ruddy was poor against Charlton that was a soft goal we should have won that game , see easy.
Personally if Bassong plays like he did in the prem 2 years ago he is far more of a liability in giving the ball away in stupid positions than Martin. The 'pass' to Martin was poor, but if we keep fannying about passing right in-front of the goal sooner or later we will make a mistake there. We don't have world class CBs and we can't afford one so whoever we buy either has to be one starting out or one ending their career, if not we will get another one like the ones we already have. P.S. I feel more comfortable with Martin as a RB
Eh? What are you talking about? Martin played at CB pretty much all seasons and under AN and when available Seb played there with him, we didn't change the CB pairing much at all.
I had a little scout on transfermarket.co.uk and this guys contract is expiring next year and is valued at just under £6m from Juve. Get the text sent Alex .MARTÍN CÁCERES http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-caceres/profil/spieler/54935
I think the fact Martin is first team captain might give a tiny hint that he's sufficiently part of the gaffer's plans.
transfermarket.com? Youtoob presentation? I was just starting to like you as well! (like your name by the way, are you sporting a 'geek pie' these days?)
Ryan Bennet 9 It was in fact a subtle piss take of the Bradygate saga with that Hull bloke . This board is totally Mexico mate .
I'm not a fan of Russell Martin at centre back, even though his slowly improving in some area's he doesn't half make some atrocious decisions especially in regards to clearances, for an example look at Paul Andersons goal for the scum. In the 13-14 season he was especially suspect at set pieces often going missing when marking players two which I remember was Gouffran's goal for Newcastle, Dzeko's for Man City which was more of a question of strength rather then positioning.
Who would you like to see come in at center back bearing in mind ? A. Affordable transfer fee B. Affordable wages C. Better than what we currently have D. Is willing to join us Other than V V D nobody seems to have any clue as to who would ticks all the boxes.
I would of gone in for a player like Steven Caulker. Good defenders are unfortunately not as available as they used to be but I trust our scouting network will have people lined up.
QPR Reject that finished last ? I would play R Bennet in front of him . It's not easy getting players with the caliber of Bassong for less than £10m also Caulker has signed with Saints for a season already.
Can't be bad if Southampton want him, I agree in some ways that Ryan Bennett deserves a chance, as a Premier League club in a decent financial state I don't see why we should shy away from a marquee signing for the defence, after all we've paid out big money for midfielders and forwards.
highlights didn't show the Brentford chances. The 1 on 1 with ruddy and any of the good chances they created.
Maybe because it was a Norwich win and Norwich coverage , the 2 goals were sublime and you still moan ? Players and teams don't put the same level of effort into training games Kemp it was just a friendly and we won 2-1.
Firstly, I think our squad is easily capable enough to succeed in staying up this year before any signings. (Apart from competition on the left). So this isn't me making Russell Martin out to be some scapegoat or anything like that. I don't think it's going to be a horror show next season if he remains first choice centre back, and I will feel comfortable him being there, if it comes to it. The way I see it, is that Russell Martin/ Martin Olsson are probably the weakest players in our starting 11, which is testament to the team we have (again nothing against them, just my opinion). I don't think they're bad players and are capable in the Premier League, but if we're going to sign player to improve the team these are the two areas I would have looked at. Obviously we've got Brady now, although still have a suspicion he'll end up playing more advanced. So a centre back is where I would look next. Disclaimer - This opinion does not come with evidence. To be fair that's why we have scouting networks, to find players. To roll off a name, that Chencel Mbemba would have been quality, who's now gone to Newcastle. Terrence Kongolo from Feyenoord is also a very good player but I don't know his wage demands or how much Feyenoord would sell him for.
