I can't see how it would work. I mean we get him signed, pay the fee, register him, give him a shirt number, play in the league&cup etc and then someone can pay more and it's all off. I don't know how the league would view it either.
So we can agree terms and get him through a medical but no pen to paper until those 22 days have passed.
It's bollocks. We offer £4m, they say ok but you'll have to wait 21 days to see if someone trumps that. We'd simply look elsewhere and tell them on day 20 to keep him, or we revise our offer down to take into account missing pre season training and 3 games. Don't believe this clause exists. Just doesn't make sense.
Just get the feeling that Brentford are going to **** us about, we saw what they did to they own manager last season.
I'm not impressed by our transfer activity. An unproven youth from Arsenal, some lad from Chesterfield who scored 9 in league one, a young lad from Brentford who might be ok, a 24 year old striker from Brentford who, despite having an ok goal return last season, was playing in the conference a little over a year ago, and a sick note who's managed about 10 minutes on the pitch in the last 10 years. It hardly speaks of promotion aspirations. Then you look at people like Derby and Boro signing genuine proven quality such as Tom Ince, Stuart Downing, Jason Shackell, Andreas Weimann, they're even going after heavy hitters such as Jordan Rhodes.
And their record so far this season is exactly the same as ours. Perhaps we should wait until a few games have been played before we start carping.
If the player says he wants to come here then I reckon that'll be the end of it and he'll sign pretty quickly. Don't forget its the players that have the power these days. That said if Ehab has some balls he could say the offer is on the table for x days, otherwise the offer will be pulled!
I have to say I'm equally unimpressed with our transfer activity, especially when compared with our potential promotion rivals. We have done nothing to remedy the glaring deficiency in our CMF, namely the lack of a fast creative play-maker willing to run at defenses and open up space for our strikers, we are still reliant on a GK whose disastrous errors cost us the valuable points that would have kept us up in closer to a mid-table position, we have signed a sick note at FB whose performances for Newcastle were dire whenever I watched them last season and who compares poorly with Rosenior, we have an unproven youth on loan in MF, another relative unknown from League One, and we have failed to bring in a striker to replace the three departing players, although the Brentford lad looks like he could be the real deal but we seem reluctant to use the potential Hernandez, N'Doye money to finalize the transaction. With the season one week away what have we got. Brady, Ince, Chester, McShane are gone. Two strikers are on their way out. How much longer will Jelavic knee hold up. How much longer will we be able to hang onto Robertson and Elmo, or even Dawson? Our strike force is threadbare. Our GK is a fumble waiting to happen. Our CMF is the same as last year i.e creativity non-existent. Is our offensive Plan A going to be more of last year.?...i.e slow mid-field build ups, swing long balls out to the wing, lump it into the area, and hope for the best!! Bruce seems to be devoid of a Plan B or any other tactics. It could be another long and frustrating season.
Things will look a lot better come the end of the transfer window im sure. I'll be the first to admit we should have started signing players weeks ago, we could have had the likes of Clucas, Gray, Bentley, Odubajo & Hayden all done and dusted. But at least we're starting to see things happen, im actually looking forward to the final few weeks of the transfer window and start of the season. Exciting times!
