I would like a striker who can also play a bit of football, Iike the young spanish kid up the road, compare him to Whicks, and at a quarter of the price. Lets see if we can pull another rabbit out of the bag, it looks atm we might just have done with Lens.

I believe DA will be looking for a target man to play into, which I think Austin can be. Ricky Lambert would be a good option too.
The pace and ability to beat a man will come from Lens and hopefully a CM like Dembele or another wide right player.

One thing for sure if Whicks goes and hopefully the other two planks as well, we couldn't get much worse in, I notice no one is shouting for the return of Jozy <laugh>

Getting your money back and a bit on top has to be seen as good business in my view.

    How are you guys anyway?

    Long time no see.

Sorry but buying Lambert would make no improvement on our team but I do agree with the pace coming from a new cm or a new wide player.

Absolute daylight robbery for that incredible sack of ****. The Sunderland faithful are going to be willing him to do well for the sake of them 'add ons' as well, I wouldn't earmark that money for any future potential transfers if I was Ellis Short.

Replace him with Austin and that's possibly the best transfer deal in modern history.

Mate, it's nearly that good without Austin going to Sunderland, how you managed that deal I'll never know.

People being vague about ITK's on here, reeks of Twitter, just ****ing spit it out, who said Austin's signing for you lot? If it's credible I'm putting money on it.

Good deal if you do it though.

Connor Wickham’s imminent move to Crystal Palace has followed a week of negotiations with Sunderland.

Wickham, who only penned a new four-year contract with Sunderland last December, is due to discuss personal terms with Palace today after the Black Cats accepted a fee for the 22-year-old.

It is understood that Palace first approached Sunderland earlier this week with an offer which was turned down.

Sunderland made their stance clear on Wickham, but it is thought Palace then met the asking price with a follow-up bid for the England Under-21 international and the Black Cats sanctioned his departure.

Club sources are keeping tight-lipped on the size of the fee – rumoured to be around the £10million mark – but it is not thought they have made a loss on the £8m invested in the summer of 2011.

Wickham’s departure would free up a sizeable chunk of wages for Sunderland to re-invest, while also boosting Dick Advocaat’s transfer kitty, with the Dutchman still keen to bring in another couple of players before the end of the transfer window.

Advocaat has been looking to boost his options up front, yet, with four frontmen already on the books, Sunderland have faced the problem of needing to offload one of the quartet to make room in the squad.

Wickham had been considered the least likely to depart after being handed a lucrative new contract last December after the club had rejected two offers from West Ham – the highest of which was around £6m.

But while Sunderland had hoped the 22-year-old would kick-on after his contribution to the Great Escape two season ago, there were signs of frustration from Advocaat about the England Under-21 international’s application.

Wickham, who has missed Sunderland’s last two pre-season outings with a knock sustained in Canada last week, had found himself in a deeper role at the end of last season and was dragged off at half-time in the 0-0 draw at Arsenal which guaranteed the club’s survival.

Even if Wickham’s move goes through, one of Steven Fletcher or Danny Graham – both in the final 12 months of their contracts – could still depart this summer.

But Sunderland will now have a hefty sum to reinvest in their forward line, to boost an attack which was the joint worst in the Premier League last season.

We managed to swap Jozy for Defoe so who knows?
    I don't know any ITK's mind.

Even if he comes good at Palace, I on't think we have lost out as he wasn't gonna come good here.

To get our money back, even a small profit, is a miracle on a lad who has never looked likely to score enough and who spends more time in bars around Newcastle than owt else.

    This is a great sale.

If we get anything around £8million we've done a cracking bit of business.

I'm slightly indifferent about this one because I genuinely believe there's a really good player in there - he's just not got the right attitude by all accounts.

One day he might realise it, until then we can't afford expensive passengers.

Agree wholeheartedly - TBH he's similar to Defoe.

Neither looked great last season (both woeful towards the end) yet a lot of people say "Defoe hasn;t had service and is playing out of position" and, in the same breath, "Wickham is rubbish" when in reality neither player has had any service and neither player has been played in their best position! If we make a profit on him then I will be happy as long as it's re-invested in quality not quantity!

Wickham has shown time and time again he is not a finisher though mate, Defoe has 200 goals behind him.

I agree there is a player in Wickham, but he isn't stepping up here, my thoughts would be he wants to be down South anyway, closer to family, pals, and London.

It's funny how many people do though mate.

Betting patterns are always a good place to look, I have a mate who works at Will Hills HQ and he sees big money moving before most transfers nowadays. At 18/1 I would guess that there's nowt imminent, but looking at the logic (not taking formation into account) I can't see why the transfer couldn't materialise at some point.

You don't think Lambert would be better than Graham or Fletcher as a lone striker? Or, when a game dictates, as a partner for Defoe?

    I do.
