Ah yes, good spot. It looks to be a size thing as the smaller players have it in-between the stripes. Difference between adult and junior kit?
Was my first thought too. But Matt Targett isnt exactly barrel chested yet its all in the red like Vic and Pelle.
Exactly. Nail on head, FLT! I love Graziano's passion and that strike last night was fabulous (how many times have we heard pundits say "just put your foot though it, son"? Well, he did and what a cracker! But, he has to look around at other CFs (he could do well to learn from SRL) and hold it up, then lay it off. The flick off the chest worked well, once in the game, the other 20 times it didn't. Surely RK will be having words? If one Charlie Austin was in the stands watching, which I doubt, what will he have learned? I wonder
Funny how we see it, isn't it, Romsey? I thought Steven looked uncomfortable more forward and happier when moved back into the centre. Guess that's why we each have our opinions!!
I think those are Medium and Large shirts - Matty Target's shirt is too big for him and must be a Large. The ones on the white are medium?
No one has commented on Vitesse yet but I thought that they were a strong physical side who got away with a great deal.
Yes they were. I thought they did work hard to press us, so it was a useful test as well as being an important cup tie. Tadic will be feeling a little bruised today.
Hello Saints fans, Toon fan in peace. Any idea why Jay Rodriguez didn't even make the bench tonight? I fancy him for my fantasy football. Would have thought he could have done with some pitch time after the long lay off? All the best for the season.
We're believing/hoping that he is being kept for the non-competitive friendly on Sunday to ease him in gently. He has looked good pre-season and the club want to get his return right. My guess is he plays at least a half on Sunday, misses Vitesse away and then is in the bench against the Toon. If I hear that you've passed this info on to the man with the brolly, I'll be sending my lawyer after you
We were surprised as well. There's been no news of injury so my guess is Ronald didnt feel he needed him and will let him get game time in a low pressure friendly against Espanyol on Sunday instead.
He's good value, but might not be a regular starter until a few games into the season. If you want a Saints-sponsored golden tip, put Sadio Mane in your midfield.
My view of the game: - Wanyama was immense doing what he does best. Surely there's not still Saints fans out there that don't rate him and don't see what he brings to the side. - Clasie as others have said was fairly anonymous, though it should come with time and I thought he grew into the game a bit in the 2nd half and when he went off we stopped keeping the ball, though I don't know if this was a coincidence to us tiring in general around that time. - Mane was a real threat as always, you could tell they were worried about him from minute one. Still think this guy is going to have an unbelievable season, we're gonna struggle to keep hold of him. - I have to agree that I find Pelle's flicks frustrating, not enough come off to justify trying that many, you can't keep giving the ball away that cheaply, if that was against a better side we'd be punished if we kept giving them the ball. I do love his passion though and he seems to really care and an absolutely rocket of a finish at a time we really needed it as well. - Cedric looked good. Very good, still early days but has the black box struck again? - Vittese fans were immense, I posted yesterday that I thought we might get a singing lesson and boy did we! Spoke to a few outside as well and all were friendly. Their ring of fire song near the end of the game was brilliant, we could learn a thing or 2 during this European adventure. Overall a great result, no away goal conceded and we are very much in control of the tie, still a bit disjointed and I thought the 2nd half looked very pre-seasonish which is understandable as it's still July but another good work out n now we need to finish the job in Holland next week!
Oh and does anyone know all the words to the new Wanyama song? I heard a fair bit of it throughout game but couldn't pick it all up - to the tune of in the jungle.
The moment when Pelle fell over himself mid-air was because once again he was trying one of his endless flicks instead of trap, hold, release. I cannot believe one of our coaches isn't picking up on this.
To be fair, we don't actually know what he's like in defence yet. If he defending is on par with the threat he offers going forward, he's an absolute gem
