A bit gutted as I always had hopes that he'd realise his potential here, but he hasn't really kicked on.

Sod's law he'll have a great season at Palace but hopefully we've got a decent fee (must be £9m+) and can reinvest in quality. Austin would be great!

If we got Austin we would be flying, he is exactly the player we need. He Defoe and Lens would be a fantastic front 3. Add Giacc to the mix and were looking very good.

Please Please Please let this happen......

There are fans on here saying Connor will come good, well how many chances does a kid of his age need, yes the quality of supply too our strikers has been rubbish for the past three seasons but this kid apart from six games the season before last just hasn't done it for me. If he does go then I wish him all the best, but a more idle forward on our books I cannot think of.

Fletcher for one, every time I saw Wickham play he at least put a shift in. His fitness is maybe lacking but I wouldn't call him idle he was haring up and down the wing every match until his legs went, under Poyet.

It's his poor decision making that's his main downfall for me and that's the kind of thing you either have or you don't, he'll never have it.

All the raw talent but could never just cut it. Good money in and a high wage off the bill but will only be a good deal if it's used wisely.

21 English big centre forward and has blatant ability! Was no worse than any other striker last season! I'm gutted if this comes off. I reckon he'll turn into a very good player

I honestly think our brand of football certainly under poyet has been shocking, and not just Connor don't think any of our forwards have been given any sort of service, even Defoe, not many speak against him but hardly prolific for us

Hear Rhodes mentioned, well 12 mil and unproven, (just like Connor but older) Austin @15 mil but only last week stating he wants top half team, sure there is a plan behind this but really wary, for me whickam last of forwards to be sold, yes still talking about potential, but maybe the potential is we could actually have a good team to provide and support him.

Selling Connor is a big mistake if we are keeping both Graham and Fletcher. The latter pair are too old and not good enough.Connor has not been given his chance as a no.9.Why not?

He was given his chance at the end of the season before last when he, almost single handedly, kept us up! But never since! If we replace him with an improvement then I have no issue. The fees being quoted are anywhere from £8m to £14m. If we sell him for £14m and bring in 29 year old sow (who is in the last year of his contract) then I'll honestly be a bit disappointed! 22 year old with undoubted talent and ability and can play in the PL for a 29 year old risk? I trust Dick but this would be a gamble at that sort of cash IMO!

Sorry but I don't think he has undoubted talent and if the lack of goals send us down compared to getting an older striker who can actually find the net doesn't that save us many times the 14 million banded about.

I want to see players come through the ranks but 8million and 4 seasons and it's not happening we can't keep flogging that horse.

He obviously has talent though! Before the last 2 seasons he payed about ten games for us and had an injury. He scored goals playing in the number 9 role under poyet!, just my opinion but I do think the lad has talent. Would've loved to see him given more chance up front!

Can't argue that he should been given more chance up top centre but I feel he just isint a natural goal scorer. I guess we will find out while he is at Palace because they should give him good service.

Wickham was always going to be a difficult decision. I would have loved to have had the luxury of giving him one more season to see if he had it. It's also been frustrating that he was never given a proper go up front by himself - and that we've had to watch him fart around on the left side.

    BUT

I can see why several managers have refused to gift wrap him the role up front and he's had 4 years to show us something and produced nowhere near enough.

All this leads to him being expendable in my view if the price is right. And at anything over 8 million, the price is right my friends. We obviously have someone lined up and I'm excited to see who it is. If it's Sow or Austin, I'd consider it an undeniable upgrade.

He's scored less goals since he arrived than Austin got last season.

I don't like his attitude, on the pitch, and don't think he has the heart to play here.
He's the perfect example of too much money, too soon, destroying ambition and talent ....... the white Kenwyne Jones.

He may well turn into a great player but that isn't going to be at Sunderland inmy view where I think he's just become complacent. Maybe a move will give himthe jolt he needs and he'll realise what being a highly paid sportsman shold be all about. Maybe. I would have love tohave seenhim shine here - great to get a young player and see them develop into something special but that dreamjust isn't happening woth Whickam. I'll be on edge though waiting for a quality replacement. Who did we get into replace Bent and Gyan? Fingers crossed that there's someone great who wants to come.

Personally, I'll not be sorry to see the back of him.
For one reason or another, it hasn't worked out for him here.

As disappointed as I am with this, if the money being talked about is right then I can understand it! He has very few admirers on here (I know I'm a lonely soul) and he hasn't exactly set the world alight at SAFC. Completely mis-managed in his first 2 and a half seasons and never got a game when we were struggling for goals - Only got a chance under Poyet and proved he is capable - but hasn;t been played in the number 9 position since!

I will wish him well if he goes - and, as I say, I understand the decision if the money being touted is right. anywhere from £8m - £14m for a 5 or 6 goal a season striker is good money - as long as we replace him with an improvement.

Austin is a good striker but he's more a sniffer and battering ram than anything - he's not going to beat a man and I would prefer a bit of pace up top. Time will tell if this is a good decision or not
