...........it's because he's one hell of a wise racegoer. Goes for the fun of it only. She knows he won't lose the family silverware. Entertaining and depressing at the same time.

Agreed and more power to him. I apologise for being unduly harsh to the chap.

As Monty Python said "I love animals and I love killing them".

Poor old Cecil. But I am enjoying the dentist hunter now being hunted.

The BBC World News yesterday was filled with Americans killing animals, killing people for committing traffic mistakes or killing themselves.

Tide turning a wee bit now with some people (not me) stating this is no big deal for an American. People get shot every day in the USA. The problem with killing the head of a pride is that the 'competition' between the other males to replace Cecil means that until it is settled any 'young' born are eaten until the new head of the pride is settled.
The whole 'cage hunting' is disgusting with animals of all types being 'murdered' by predominanantly rich Americans who bear no risk to attain their 'trophies'. Who ultimately arranges/allows these 'events' should also be castigated.

That it is no big thing for an American does not surprise me. But what does that say?

Too much money and not enough common sense or (human) decency!
I am no wildlife expert but I saw an interview with a Safari Park guide on the TV yesterday. The eejits pay six figures in US dollars to assassinate beatiful creatures. It showed the 'charges' to murder lions, tigers, elephants(?), giraffes (?) and other 'big' cats.
It's a pity the dentist did not suffer a Jurrasic Park type accident with the lion/tiger getting hold of him by the throat!!!!

I think the most unpalatable thing about the whole sorry tale is that apparently it would not have mattered if he had shot a different lion - just not Cecil....

There was a dreadful story in the Telegraph the other day about how the elephant population in Tanzania has dropped by around 60% in the last decade due to hunting.

Perhaps the tour companies who preach ecology in their brochures should all threaten to boycott these places if it does not stop - the way things are going there will be nothing for people to see in 10 years anyway.

Just thought of an appropriate 'punishment' for 'the dentist'. I wonder if he would like to take part in the torture scene from Marathon Man where Sir Laurence Olivier plays a dentist to Dustin Hoffman's patient; he would of course play the DH role!!!

    IS IT SAFE???

Cyc - I suspect you're not an AFL fan but what's your take on the Adam Goode story? For the uninitiated, and Cyc will correct me where I have it wrong, Goode is an indigenous Australian playing for Sydney swans and is one of the best performers in the game all be it he does court controversy at times. He's been getting a lot of abuse and many are saying it is racist and now most teams are rallying round to support him. Those who do boo him claim to do so because he is a pillock and a cheat - and as the heartland of the game is Victoria they will never take kindly to a Sydney sider.

Heard about the above on the wireless; did it involve a thirteen year old girl?

Partly yes - she allegedly called him an ape and he took exception to it and complained to security. This was 2 years ago.

The Goodes thing is some sort of story here at the moment. He's not well liked as a player, he's brilliant, but a heap of fans think him a turd. The man has played the racist card for a long time, any time things go against him, he falls back on it. The 13 year old girl you mentioned was in the crowd and called him a "ape" which is shocking. But the manner in which he acted put a lot of people off side. I don't like the game so don't watch it, but from what I gather, when it happened, he put his personal feelings before those of the team. I can't attest to it, but it seems that he let the game run while he confronted the girl. I don't know if he was heated when he spoke to her or not. There are loads of indigenous players who are not being booed, and Goodes has not been subjected to it until recently, so I'm not sure what's going on. One of the problems here is that those on the high ground are claiming that the booing is all racism, others are saying that they don't like the man and the booing is non racial. The whole thing is becoming polemic. The bottom line is that there must be racism involved in it, but there must also be those who have just had a gut full of the man and are on his case, whether he be black, white or brindle.

Thanks Cyc - yes that's the impression I got from my friends in Melbourne. Apparently he's an effing cheat.... I watch it when I can and certainly two North Melbourne favourites, Motlopp and Pickett never got such stick. I must say that from what I read and hear you guys seem to be turning in on yourselves a bit at the moment over the whole racism thing. I may be wrong but suspect it may be an anti Abbott thing?

Thought I picked this up on the wireless sometime yesterday or last night but was not aware the 'incident' was two years ago; just back from boozy fortnight's holiday in Koln!!!

Christ; have just seen the likely teams in Pot 2 for the Champion's League, probably stronger than the teams in Pot 1!

I'm not too sure what's going on here Dan, but the red necks seem to coming out of the woodwork. The Left have been on the nose here for quite some time, so Abbott being on the right easily got voted in. The population here, like a lot of the world, seems to have taken a big leap to the right. These are ugly times.
