Begins: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33710872 Alan Shearer, in his uniquely laconic style, says Norwich "may be similar", not a word more. Sharp and to the point. And infallible. Undeniable. I for one cannot wait for our season of possible similarity.
Good spot Rob. Let's hope Shearer ends up having to eat 'humble pie'. Yes, we may struggle, but with a manager who has a totally different attitude to CH, I for one can't agree. Yes, I'd rather we'd signed a few more players and I know there is still 5 weeks or so of the transfer window left, but Watford's idea of signing 10 players is completely wrong I feel.
On a recent thread I had a go at pundits and accused them of being lazy. This piece from Shearer is exactly what I meant. Chelsea the team to beat and the ones looking at relegation? yep, the promoted sides and then Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle and Leicester. Now I don't know what he was paid for that valuable insight, but i suspect that anyone on this site would have given a similar overview and saved the money. Again, utter pap. As for Norwich being 'similar' - FFS!
I thought it was quite insightful! He's basically predicted "the same top four, but not necessarily in that order" and for the three promoted clubs to 'struggle'. In other words princes leading the table, paupers propping it up. Shrewd, profound and many England caps went into forming such an in-depth analysis He's as bad for soundbites as that 'expert' summariser Lawrenson. A right pair of tits. Not a contentious word in their smarmy, overpaid bodies.
Shearer is definitely one of the worst and for some reason he seems to be the lead analyst on MOTD since Hansen left. Those segments he does are painful. I don't think I watched it at all since the start of the year. I'll probably watch a few of them at the start of the new season and then get bored of it again.
Cromer have one of these <hitsnailonheademoticon> I'm sure one of his children could have given exactly the same analysis (or anyone of us)!!!
Me neither. There are so many avenues these days of reading watching / listening to clued up pundits reflecting on games - and MOTD is not one of those options I'm sure most on here either go to the games live or watch somehow - and we're all equally, if not better qualified to comment than these 'giants' of the game Shearer, Lineker and that complete tool Lawrenson. So, Match of the Day, I've not missed you for the last couple of seasons and I sure don't plan to start missing you this coming season either. Pah!
The one snippet I remember when we were last promoted was Lineker disagreeing with the usual platitudes about the promoted sides going straight back down as in our case, Lambert would be the difference because of the effect he had on the team. I feel the same is true this season, except that AN is even better at both motivation and methodical tactical preparation for each match. That will be the difference again.
The thing is, I don't have an issue with pundits predicting that Norwich will go down - it's not an unreasonable prediction to make. But please, as a pundit, maybe do your job and provide some sort of justification for that prediction, that's all I ask.
I have on occasion listened to his radio programme (606?) on Sunday evenings. He's not the arrogant know-it-all of old and does actually raise some valid points - regarding teams across all the leagues
I find him to be an annoying twat who thinks he's funny and talks about stuff I'm not interested in. I will admit he's calmed down a bit because on his his previous stint with the Beeb he was completely insufferable, obnoxious and unprofessional. He remains a complete nob though, he should be banned and have his vocal chords removed.
I met him about 12 years or so ago as he was hosting a game show me and some mates went on (Friends Like these if anyone can remember that?). He was actually alright, seemed a decent enough bloke but intgerestingly he told us he wasn't really a massive fan of football at all, he saw it as more of a job than anything and said he wasn't going to stay in the game (he'd retired a year or two earlier) in any capacity. Clearly his tv career never took off so he decided he was going to stay in football after all, and why on earth wouldn't he? Has to be the easiest money going doesn't it? I have occasionally caught him on 606, dear me, he's dreadful to listen to and almost as annoying as Savage (though at least Savage does at least very occasionally talk some sense).
"Here's your script Mr Shearer" "I don't need a script. I will say the same as last year but using the three promoted teams in place of the three relegated."
The ever insightful Stan Collymore with a breathtakingly detailed piece of analysis, predicting that the three relegated teams will be... The three promoted teams. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/stan-collymore-predicts-premier-league-6179796? In summary: Watford have signed too many players, they'll go down. Norwich have signed too few players, they'll go down. Bournemouth have signed neither too few, nor too many players, but they are a good footballing side, they'll go down.
WTF? I agree, Rob, he's just basically replicated last season's table, which is a bloody cop out. I can see Leicester and Sunderland having a tough time of it - and Norwich and Bournemouth being the beneficiaries of their poor form to survive
WTF? I agree, Rob, he's just basically replicated last season's table, which is a bloody cop out. I can see Leicester and Sunderland having a tough time of it - and Norwich and Bournemouth being the beneficiaries of their poor form to survive
You really don't know? He doesn't even deny it, says we should judge him as a pundit, not on his past!
